Volunteers Sought
    For Health Fair
    Volunteers and exhibitors are being sought for the upcoming Sitka Health Fair.
    The fair, which kicks off the Sitka Health Summit and is partnered with Alaska Health Fairs to provide low-cost lab draws, will be 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at Sweetland Hall on the SJ Campus.
    Exhibits must be educational. No selling of items or soliciting is allowed.
    Volunteers are needed for set-up and take-down, registration, taking blood pressures, drawing blood, and other activities. Those interested may contact Alyssa Sexton at 747-0388.

    Identifying Mushroom
    Class Date Changed
    UAS-Sitka Campus, Office of Continuing Education, will offer a workshop in identifying Southeast mushrooms 7-8:30 p.m. Sept. 6 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 7.
    It was originally scheduled Sept. 8.
    Students will learn to recognize several species of locally common mushrooms and understand the basic biology of fungi and their role in the ecosystem. Cooking and preservation of mushrooms will be discussed. Participants should dress for the outdoors as field trips will be followed by in-class time.  
    Kitty LaBounty will instruct. The cost is $49. For more information or to register, call 747-7762.

    Tribal Council Meets
    The Sitka Tribe of Alaska Tribal Council will hold an action-only meeting 6 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Sheet’ka Kwaan Naa Kahidi.
    The brief meeting will be followed by an open forum to talk about the relationship between STA and the Sitka Native Education Program. Action-only meetings are for action items only. Topics for discussion and persons to be heard are reserved for the third Wednesday of the month.

    Sexual Violence
    Task Force Meets
    The Sitka Domestic and Sexual Violence Task Force will meet noon-1 p.m. Sept. 3 at the Sitka Community Hospital classroom.
    The task force strives to create a community where interpersonal violence is not tolerated. The meeting is open to all. For more information, call SAFV, 747-3370.
