Kindergarten
    Set for Puppies
    Puppy kindergarten classes are set 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays Oct. 29-Dec. 3 for puppies ages 6 to 16 weeks using only positive training methods.
    In addition to basic “manners” the class will cover nutrition, grooming, first aid. “Socialization” periods are included in each class where puppies learn proper etiquette. Owners will learn what constitutes acceptable puppy behavior.
    The fee is $100. Susan Royce and Karen Kluting will instruct.

    Teens Celebrate
    Day of the Dead
    Teens are invited to celebrate the festivity of the Day of the Dead at Kettleson Memorial Library 7:30 p.m.  Nov. 1.
    Teens can participate in different activities, among them decorating sugar skulls.
    Registration is required. For more information call the Library at 747-8708.

    Magic Show Set
    Children ages 6 and older are invited to a magic show with local magician Dr. Ron Fribush 10:30 a.m. Nov. 2 at Kettleson Library. New tricks and illusions will be part of the program.

           
    Homebuyers
    Seminar Free
    Alaska Housing and Finance Corporation will offer a free homebuyers information class 6-10 p.m. Nov. 21-22 in Sitka.
    During the seminar students will learn the ins and outs of the home buying process, programs that AHFC offers and other information.
    The seminar is aimed at those planning to purchase a home. Attendees will receive a $250 voucher that is good toward any AHFC program commitment fee.

    Light the Night
    Set for Oct. 31
    The Light the Night event, sponsored by Sitka Assembly of God Church, will be held 4-6 p.m. Oct. 31 at Baranof Elementary school covered area. The event is free and open to all family members.
    Games, candy, food and prizes will be offered. In past years, the event had been held at Crescent Harbor.

    Marine Hydraulics
    Online Course Set
    Community Education and Professional Development at UAS-Sitka Campus is offering a marine hydraulics course online. The six-hour class is designed for users of marine hydraulics specifically for commercial fishing vessels.
    Students will learn the basic theory of common hydraulic systems, identify hydraulic components, learn the nomenclature associated with hydraulics, and basic troubleshooting techniques. The cost is $95. Dates for the course are Nov. 5-8.

    Reuse Center Open
    Sitka Community Development Corporation announces the Sitka Reuse Center will be open 5-6:30 p.m. tonight and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 26.
    The Reuse Center is a volunteer operation selling donated building materials and is located at 4620 Halibut Point Road, across from the AML barge landing. Those interested in volunteering or donating materials may call Greg Reynolds at 738-5518.
