    Gingerbread
    Contest on Tap
    Gingerbread architects are being called by the Greater Sitka Arts Council for its gingerbread contest as part of Sitka Artisans Market.
    Juried entries must be either winter, holiday, or Alaska themed. Submit entries at Centennial Hall 1 p.m. Dec. 7. There will be prizes in a variety of categories. For more infomation contact Ayla at 738-5804.
 
    ‘The Nutcracker’
    Performances Set
    ‘‘The Nutcracker’’ performances have been set 7 p.m. Dec. 7, 2 and 7 p.m. Dec. 7, and 3 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Performing Arts Center by the Sitka Studio of Dance and the Sitka Friends of Dance.
    Tickets are on sale at Old Harbor Books for $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $15 for students ages 6 to 18. Children age 5 and under are admitted free. More information is listed on the Sitka Nutcracker Facebook page or call 966-2557.

    Children’s Author
    To Visit Sitka
    Well-known Alaskan non-fiction and children’s book author Judy Ferguson will be in Sitka as part of the Sitka Artisans Market. Greater Sitka Arts Council will offer a writer-led workshop and discussion 5-6 p.m. Dec. 7. No registration necessary. A $10 donation is suggested and refreshments will be provided.     Midweek Connect
    At Methodist Church
    Midweek Connect will be 5:30 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Fellowship Hall at the Methodist Church.
    The topic will be ‘‘The Faith and Life of Coast Guard Families’’ and will include a panel discussion. All are invited to participate in fellowship-style conversations.
    Those who can take a dish to share at the potluck dinner are invited to do so.

    First Aid, CPR
    Training Nov. 23
    UAS-Sitka Campus, Office of Continuing Education, will offer an AHA First Aid and CPR Training 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 23.
    The training fulfills OSHA and Coast Guard requirements. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive Heartsaver cards.

    School Board Meets
    Sitka School Board will hold a work session 6 p.m. Nov. 19 in the district office board room.
    The board will discuss legislative priorities. The public is invited to attend.

    August Carlson
    Services Pending
    Services for August Edward Carlson are pending with Prewitt Funeral Home.
    Mr. Carlson passed away Nov. 16 at SEARHC-Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital.


    Thanksgiving
    Baskets Given
    Sitka Tribe of Alaska’s social services department is handing out Thanksgiving baskets to emergency assistance and general assistance clients on a first-come, first-served, basis 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 25 at 429 Katlian Street.
    Clients should contact the department for more information.
