Little League
    Registration On
    Registration is open for the upcoming Little League season at http://www.sitkalittleleague.org/
    Those who register online will be discounted $20 per player. The league has a $200 cap per household.
    The next board meeting is 6:30-8 p.m. Feb. 20 in room 208 at Blatchley Middle School. It is open to the public.

    The group is also in need of a vice president for the T-ball league.

    Chamber to Meet
    ‘‘Oil and Gas in Alaska: State of the Industry’’ is the topic of the noon Wednesday Chamber of Commerce luncheon at Westmark Sitka.
    Guest speaker will be Kara Moriarty, president and CEO of Alaska Oil and Gas Association, who will provide an overview of the organization.
    The luncheons is open to the public. Call 747-8604 with questions.

    Keet Kids Night
    Set Thursday
    The 8th Annual Keet Kids Night is set 7 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Sitka High gym. The Sitka High girls varsity basketball squad will play Petersburg.
    Students are being encouraged to wear red, white and blue, and to arrive early to sit in the marked-off bleacher section.    Students will eceive a free basketball necklace and novelty item to help cheer on Coach Kathy Forrester and the team, the school said.
    Admission is free to all KGH students and their parents.

    Tribal Council
    Slated to Meet
    The Sitka Tribe of Alaska Tribal Council will meet 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Sheet’ka Kwáan Naa Kahídi Community House.
    On the agenda are council member appointments to committees, commissions and board seats.

    Alaska Day Festival
    Themes Sought
    Alaska Day Festival planners are requesting theme suggestions for Sitka’s mid-October community celebration which might focus on an organization, activity, anniversary, or tradition important in Sitka’s heritage.
    The committee next meets on Feb. 18 and each following third Tuesday of the month. Persons having comments about festival activities or new volunteers are invited to attend the 6:30 p.m. meetings at Centennial Hall or contact Chairman Ted Allio at 747-5124.
    Other trustees are Joan Berge, Helen Cunningham, Steve Dalquist (vice chairman), Jen Houx, Lisa Langenfeld, Marsha Lysons, Elaine Strelow (secretary), Linda Trierschield, MaryLou Vilandre, and Ann Wilkinson (treasurer).
    A liaison from the U.S. Coast Guard is to be named. The festival’s mailing address is P.O. Box 1355, Sitka.
