‘‘Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs’’ by Byron Barton will be one of the readings during the next Preschool Story Time 10:30 a.m. March 6 at Kettleson Library.
The program includes readings, rhymes, songs and a craft project. All are invited to attend. For more information call the library at 747-8708.

Garage Sale
Girl Scout Troop 4140 will hold a garage sale and cookie sale 8 a.m.-noon March 8 at Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary School.
Donations of quality, sellable items will be accepted 5-7 p.m. March 7 at the school, or call 738-2073 or 738-7453 to have items picked up.
School Board Meets
The Sitka School Board will meet 7 p.m. March 10 at the ANB Founders Hall.
Prior to the meeting, the board will hold a gathering at 6 p.m. The public invited to attend.

A registration session for Sitka Little League will be offered 5:30-7:30 Tuesday, March 4, and Thursday, March 6, at the Blatchley Middle School commons.

Sitka Skippers
Set Garage Sale
The Sitka Skippers will hold a garage sale fundraiser 9 a.m.-1 p.m. March 8 in the Blatchley Middle School multipurpose room.
Many items have been donated by the community. Popcorn and baked goods will also be for sale.
New Contact for Health Promotion/Health Education
Sitka Community Hospital has hired Patrick Williams as its new contact for health promotion and health education needs. Williams will be handling all education aspects in regards to health fairs, education events and public speaking forums.
Williams’ philosophy to health and well-being is both academic comprehension and physical fitness. He earned a bachelor’s degree in health education in 2011 from Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina. He then obtained certifications and licenses enabling him to manage health programs and counsel substance abuse (CDC I, TTS).
Williams competed on the national stage as a NCAA Division 1 athlete in swimming and track and field. He now spends his spare time as the Baranof Barracuda assistant coach, helping kids accomplish their athletic goals.

Positive Indian
Parenting Offered
Sitka Tribe of Alaska will offer sessions in ‘‘Positive Indian Parenting’’ 1:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesdays March 4-April 22 at Sawmill Creek Apartments Community Center, 103 Burkhart Drive.
Sessions will be presented by Sharon McIndoo, SAFV rural outreach coordinator, and STA tribal family caseworker Jean Swanson.

Positive Indian Parenting was developed to serve as a model for Native parents working to reconnect with their culture and traditions. This curricula has been used successfully by tribes nationwide. It is open to all Tribal citizens and their caregivers.
Free childcare and transportation provided and lunch will be served 1 to 1:30 p.m.; classes begin at 1:30 p.m.
Docent Training
Set for March 5
Those who are interested in helping the Sitka Sound Science Center share its understanding of Sitka’s science legacy are invited to attend docent and docent junior training 6 p.m. March 5.
The nine-week training sessions will equip participants with knowledge of our local organisms and Science Center projects.

T-Shirt Contest
Deadline Friday
Sitka National Historical Park, in conjunction with Alaska Geographic, invites local artists to submit designs for a Sitka National Historical Park T-Shirt.
Designs should be representative of the park, its resources or activities. Designs may include but are not limited to Northwest Coast formline or totemic art, the Battle of 1804, Russian America, or the artist’s relationship with the park.
The design must be suitable for T-shirt transfer and is limited to three colors.
A panel of judges comprised of representatives from both Sitka National Historical Park and Alaska Geographic will select the winning entry. A $400 honorarium will be awarded for the selected design. Designs and artist contact information (including telephone and email address) can be dropped off at the visitor center or may be sent to: Sitka National Historical Park, Attn: 2014 T-Shirt, 103 Monastery St., Sitka, AK 99835.
Designs must be received by March 6 to be considered, and the winner will be notified by March 11. Artists are reminded not to send originals.
