RESTORATION WORK – Father Herman Belt keeps an eye on Lincoln Street traffic this morning as workers use a Snorkel Lift to pull rotten pieces of trim from the facade of St. Michael’s Cathedral. Several pieces recently had fallen off the cathedral, which dates to 1976, causing concerns about other pieces possibly falling off and hitting pedestrians. Belt says the plan is to fabricate new wooden trim and properly flash it. East bound traffic was diverted up American Street during today’s work. District 35 GOP
To Convene Here
House District 35 Republicans will hold their district convention 6 p.m. Thursday at Centennial Hall. Delegate registration will open at 5:30 p.m. and the fee is $20.
All Alaskans who reside in House District 35, which includes Sitka, Petersburg, Northern Prince of Wales Island, Hoonah, Angoon, Kake, Tenakee Springs and Pelican who have been registered Republicans for at least 90 days prior to March 20 are invited to participate.
Business will include: election of district officers and delegates and alternates to the Republican State Convention in Juneau May 1-3; consider or adopt any proposed changes to the party rules; party platform; and any resolutions to forward to the state convention; and, any other such business as may properly come before the district convention.

New President
Harbor Enterprises Inc. announced Kurt R. Lindsey as its new president and CEO.
Harbor operates under the trade names of Petro Marine Services, Alaska Oil Sales and North 60 Petro. The company markets and distributes petroleum products in Southeast and Southcentral Alaska along with the Yukon Territory of Canada.
Lindsey takes the reins of the 55-year-old Alaskan-owned family business from his mother, Carol Lindsey, who became CEO after her husband Dale Lindsey died in 2007. Kurt also owns Shoreside Petroleum Inc. and has been in business since 1981.

Testimony Taken
For State Budget
The Senate Finance Committee is taking testimony from Sitka via teleconference for the operating budget and mental health budget 10:30-11 a.m. March 20 at the Sitka Legislative Information Office, 201 Katlian Street, Suite 103, the first floor of the Totem Square Inn.
Testimony will be limited to three minutes. Individuals must arrive no later than 10:15 a.m. to ensure their name is submitted for testimony.
TAP Class Set
A Training for Alcohol Professions class will be held 9 a.m. March 22 at Westmark Sitka in the banquet room.
The class fulfills the State of Alaska education requirements for servers and sellers of beverage alcohol. Cost is $45 and ID cards required.
Those who have an expired TAM card less than 6 months expired may simply take the test. Cost is $45 and individuals must arrive by 8:30 a.m.

Volunteers are needed at the Sea Mountain Golf course 9 a.m.-1 p.m. March 22 to help with maintenance issues to ready the course for an April 1 opening.

Memories of Sitka’s first radio station have been revived by a St. Louis, Mo., man who was one of the founders. Fred A. Wiethuchter recently wrote a letter to “Mayor Sitka, Alaska” asking about the town since he was here during World War II. He was an Army private at Fort Ray when he was attached to Armed Services Radio Station KRAY and WVCX ....
