Pioneers Meet
    Sitka Pioneers of Alaska men’s igloo 22 and women’s igloo 12 will meet April 3 at Sitka Methodist Church.
    Social hour will commence at 5:30 p.m., with potluck dinner at 6 p.m. A brief meeting and program will follow. All Pioneers are welcome.

    Bake Sale Set
    Noow Tlein Dancers will have a bake sale 10 a.m.-2 p.m. March 29 at Wells Fargo Lobby.

    Musician King
    Speaks at Library
    Nicholas King, hailed by National Public Radio as “one of the best young musicians in the country,” will provide musical conversation at Kettleson Memorial Library 5 p.m. March 30.
    King, known for inspiring a new generation of young musicians, will be playing a keyboard as he shares his “unconventional musical journey.”
    King’s visit to Sitka is sponsored by the Sitka Fine Arts Camp.


Memorial Set for
Carolyn Hammack
A celebration of life memorial for Carolyn Marie Hammack will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at Harrigan Centennial Hall. Following the memorial service will be a reception at the Elks Lodge.
Carolyn died March 5 at Banner Del Webb Hospital in Sun City West, Ariz. She was 64.

 
    Chamber to Meet
    Tonia Rioux, executive director of the Sitka Convention and Visitors Bureau, will present ‘‘The State of Sitka’s Destination Marketing’’ at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon noon Wednesday at Westmark Sitka.
    Rioux will recap the agency’s marketing reach in 2013 and its marketing initiatives for 2014, including agency goals and focus areas. 
   
    Honoring Women
    Event Set April 5
    The 17th Annual Honoring Women dinner and silent auction will be held April 5 at Centennial Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m. Joe Montagne and Peter Apathy will play live music, and Heather Hanson will sing.
    Lisa Sadleir-Hart, Marie Murray, Nancy Ricketts and Sherie Mayo will be honored.
    Students of the Sitka Studio of Dance, under the leadership of Melinda McAdams, will show a few dances from their recent program. The dinner will be catered by Ludvig’s, and there will be a no-host bar. The silent auction is supported by many individuals and businesses.
    The heart of the event consists of a slide show featuring each of the honorees and a ceremony.
    ‘‘It seems that Sitka is never running out of most remarkable women who not only serve their families, but the entire community by volunteering for the good of all, often over decades,’’ SAFV said. ‘‘This is a wonderful event to acknowledge their work which we may often take for granted.’’

    Blue Lake Project
    Tour Set Sunday
    After months of construction progress through the winter, there are many new aspects to see on the Blue Lake expansion project.
    The City and Borough of Sitka invites the public to view the progress on a bus tour to the dam site and new powerhouse. There are 88 seats available on the tour. Individuals must sign up to attend.
    The first public tour of the season will be 1 p.m. April 6, beginning inside Centennial Hall and ending at 4 p.m. at the hall.
    The tour will be the same format as last year with new updates as the construction continues. A limited number of spots remain. Sign up at www.bluelakeexpansion.com.
    Public tours will continue once a month for the months of May, June and July.


    ‘Being Prepared’
    Presentation On
    Brave Heart Volunteers will offer a free educational sessions in financial preparedness for end-of-life. All ages are invited to attend the session at the Pioneers Home Manager’s House.
    Tonight, 6-8 p.m., financial planner Cynthia Gibson, CFP, will give tips on how to maximize one’s financial resources. Call 747-4600 with questions.
