ANB to Meet
The Alaska Native Brotherhood Camp 1 will hold its regular scheduled meeting 7 p.m. Sept. 8 at the ANB Founders Hall with a tentative agenda.
Items that may be discussed include the ANB’s non-profit status, 501c3 status, Grand Camp ANB/ANS convention in Petersburg in October and accepting requests for use of the ANB Hall.
All members are being asked to attend.

Cancer, Diabetes Awareness
Golf Tourney Winners Told
Organizers have announced that the 6th Annual Cancer and Diabetes Awareness Golf Tourney and Silent Auction held recently at the Sea Mountain Golf Course has raised more than $4,000.
‘‘Dedicated golfers, auction buyers, lunch eaters and balloon launchers came out in what turned out to be beautiful weather, to raise money for the Sitka Cancer Survivors Society and the Sitka Community Hospital Outpatient Diabetes Program,’’ organizers said.
The yearly event takes place in August.
Tournament team winners were: first place, Ed Kimmel, Liza Martin, Marty Martin and Blake Hagerman with a score of 25; second, Dan Cox, Maybelle Filler, Coleen Ingman and John Rennie with 27; and third, Steve Anderson, Paddy Hanson, Jerry Sutton and Ken Winger with 28.
In the hole contests, winners in the women’s and men’s divisions were: Straight Drive, Colleen Dahlquist and Ed Kimmel; Long Drive, Colleen Ingman and Troy Denkinger; Short Drive, Ed Kimmel; and Closest to the Pin, Liza Martin, 22’2”.
There was no $25,000 hole-in-one winner.

Formline Design
Class Aug. 30-31
Openings are still available in Sheldon Jackson Museum’s free formline design workshop Aug. 30-31.
The workshop will be taught by Rico Worl, Tlingit artist, skateboarder and owner of skateboard company Trickster Skateboards.
A student reception and artist talk with Rico will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31.
The workshop is for ages 12-17, but the museum said, ‘‘but if you are a little younger or a little older, please contact us and we may be able to accommodate you for the free class.’’
Students leave with a complete, functional skateboard with their own formline designs on it at the workshop’s end. Space is limited. Students must register and attend both sessions and the student reception.

Spin/TRX Class
Slated at Hames
Spin/TRX combo classes, which include 30 minutes of cardio with a stationary bike and 30 minutes of strength training with resistance straps – developed by the Navy Seals – are being offered at Hames Center 4:15-5:15 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with Michalene and Linda.

Aerial Silks Taught
A new series of aerial silks classes has started at the Hames Center. The class builds strength and flexibility while moving athletically on fabrics.

Mountain Goat
Harvest Closure
The Sitka District Ranger, under authority delegated by the Federal Subsistence Board, is taking action to close the North Fork Katlian River zone to the harvest of mountain goats 11:59 p.m., Friday, Aug. 29.
It will remain closed through Dec. 31, the end of the regular season.
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has issued a closure in the same zone, effective Aug. 29, through the close of the season.
The remainder of Baranof Island will remain open for goat hunting unless closed by special action.
A map and description of the closed area is available from the Sitka Ranger District Office and the Sitka area office of ADF&G.
Kickboxing on Tap
Kickboxing is being offered 7:15 p.m. Mondays at the Hames Center.
‘‘Mix up your routine with the balance, coordination and strength building moves of kickboxing,’’ organizers said.
