LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. SCDC to Meet
Sitka Community Development Corporation will meet 7-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at the Pioneers Home Manager’s House.
SCDC is a community supported non-profit working to establish permanently affordable housing in Sitka. The public is invited. For more information call 747-2860.
Parent-Teacher
Conferences Set
Parent-teacher conferences will be held at Sitka High School over the next two weeks.
Dates and times are: 4:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19; 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25; by appointment 8-11 a.m. and 12:30-3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26.
Classes will not be held on Thursday, Feb. 26, or Friday, Feb. 27.
Teachers will hold conferences in their classrooms. Parents should check in at the Sitka High front office for a copy of their student’s latest grades. Call 747-3263 with questions.
Artist Campbell
Teaches UAS Class
Sitka artist Norm Campbell will be teaching an intermediate drawing class at UAS-Sitka Campus beginning Tuesday, Feb. 17.
Nine two-hour classes will be held through April 21. Students will be able to develop their personal drawing skills with guided drawing time under the encouraging guidance of Campbell.
For those who have completed a basic or beginning drawing class, this opportunity will help them expand their powers of perception, develop their own ideas of subject matter, and gain confidence and skill in their ability to produce finished artwork. Specialized art supplies will be provided.
The non-credit class costs $80, including a $10 materials fee. Registration is available online at aceweb.uas.alaska.edu or by calling 747-7700. Classes are offered 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays.
Chinese New Year
Celebration Slated
A Chinese New Year celebration will be held 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at on the SJ Campus in Allen Hall.
The celebration will start with a fireworks display outside of Allen Hall. The dragon dance, a new drama and performances will follow in Allen Hall.
Tickets are on sale at the bookstore for $5 for adults, $2 for children and students, and $10 for a family.
The admission will benefit Sitka Fine Arts Camp. The celebration is sponsored by the F/V Coral Lee and SFAC.
Family Program
At SJ Museum
The Sheldon Jackson Museum invites youths ages 6-10 to the free family-friendly At Saxan Third Saturday Program 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21.
The group will learn about and make Northwest Coast paints, pigments and face stamps, and children will make their own stamps to use on paper.

Open Skate Friday
Open family skate night is set 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at Blatchley Middle School multipurpose room.
