LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. Park Advisory
Board to Meet
The Sitka State Parks Advisory board is recruiting for new members interested in outdoor recreation.
Sitka has eighth state parks, including Halibut Point Recreation Area, Castle Hill, Old Sitka State Historic Site including Forest Muskeg Trail and Mosquito Cove Trail, Magoun Islands State Marine Park, Sea Lion Cove State Marine Park, Big Bear Baby Bear State Marine Park, Magic Island at Halibut Point Recreation Area, and Fort Rousseau Causeway State Historic Park.
The board meets 7:30-9 a.m. the second Tuesday of the month at Centennial Hall. Call the state parks office at 747-6249 to obtain an application.
4-H Climbing
Class at Hames
The 4-H Introduction to Climbing class will meet 4-5:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Hames Center.
The cost is $20 for the five-week series starting March 25. Participants must be 4-H members and can register with Jasmine Shaw at Blatchley Middle School after school on March 9, before school on March 11, or after school on March 13.

Bowl for Kids’
Sake on April 3
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sitka is registering teams for the annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser to be held 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 3, at the Keet Gooshi Heen gym.
The event is open to the public. Fundraising participants will receive two free rounds of bowling, a T-shirt, door prizes, as well as pizza and snacks.
Preregistration is required to secure a bowling lane and time. The event will also feature a cake walk, 50/50 raffle, and music by the Sitka Ukulele Orchestra. Drill Conductor
Workshop on Tap
The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association will offer a 12-hour fishing vessel drill conductor workshop 8 a.m.-5 p.m. March 18 and 8 a.m.-noon March 19 at NSRAA, 1308 Sawmill Creek Road.
Instructors Hope Merritt will cover cold-water survival skills; EPIRBs, flares and maydays; man-overboard recovery and firefighting; immersion suits and PFDs; helicopter rescue, life rafts, abandon ship procedures; and emergency drills.
The workshop meets the training requirements for documented commercial fishing vessels operating beyond the federal boundary line. It is offered to commercial fishermen at no cost, with funding from the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.

Mariners First Aid,
CPR Classes Set
The Alaska Marine Safety Education Association will conduct a first aid and CPR workshop designed for commercial fishermen and other mariners 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Friday, March 20, at Centennial Hall.
Instructor Eric Van Cise will cover CPR and automatic external defibrillators; treatment of choking; medical emergencies; trauma; environmental hazards; patient assessment; medical communications; drowning and hypothermia; and common fishing injuries.
Attendees will receive a U.S. Coast Guard accepted, two-year certificate issued by the American Safety and Health Institute. The cost for the workshop is $95. To register, call AMSEA at 747- 3287.
Conversation Series
With Artists Slated
The Conversation with Artists series will begin on March 5, with a program 6:30-8 p.m. at the Yaw Art Center.
New York-based photographer Michael Hicks and mixed media artist Heather Bauscher will be on hand.
The event is free to the public.

Officer Here
VFW state service officer Lisa Robinson will be at the Sitka Job Center noon-5 p.m. March 10.
Robinson will be available to answer questions about VA entitlements and provide free assistance filling out the application forms for VA entitlements.
