‘Space Jam’

Workshop Set

Sitka Fellows coordinator, physicist Solomon Endlich, will host a workshop “Space Jam” 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Fraser Hall on the SJ Campus.

The event is by donation. The Sitka Fellows program is sponsored by the Island Institute and the Sitka Fine Arts Camp.

 

Mountain Goat

Hunt Closures Set

The Sitka District Ranger is taking action to close Blue Lake, Medvejie Lake and the southern half of the Katlian River watersheds to the harvest of mountain goats 12:01 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 1, and will remain in effect through the 2015 season which ends Dec. 31.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game also has issued a closure in the same watersheds, Aug. 1-Dec. 31.

The remainder of Baranof Island will remain open for goat hunting unless closed by future special action. 

A map and description of the closed areas are available from the Sitka Ranger District Office and the Sitka Area Office of ADF&G. RockFit Series Set

CrossFit level-one trainer and personal trainer Bridger Williams is offering another series of RockFit at the Hames Center and has added new times.

The series will start Aug. 3 and run four weeks. Registration is open and space is limited.

TRX at Hames

TRX is back at the Hames Center.  Grace Brooks is offering introductory and advanced courses starting Aug. 3.

Sign up for TRX Basic at 11:30 a.m. Monday and Wednesday, or experienced riders can try TRX Plus at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Major League

Tourney Set

The state Major League All-Star tournament is being held this weekend at Moller Field with District 1 champions Diamond West taking on District 2 champions Juneau. Games are 6 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. Saturday, 6 p.m. Sunday, 6 p.m. Monday and 6 p.m. Tuesday.
