Walks, Talks

Slated at Park

Sitka National Historical Park offers daily guided programs teaching visitors about the park’s natural and cultural resources.

This week’s schedule includes:

Tuesday: 10 a.m.  and 2 p.m. Totem Walks and 2:30 p.m. Salmon Talk. 

Wednesday: 10:30 a.m. Russian American Walking Tour and noon Salmon Talk.

Thursday: 10:30 a.m. Russian American Walking Tour; 1 p.m. Totem Walk; 3 p.m. Salmon Talk. 

Friday: 10:30 p.m. Russian American Walking Tour; 1 p.m. Battle Walk. 

The Russian-American History Walking Tour leaves from the Russian Bishop’s House. All other ranger-led tours meet at the Sitka NHP visitor center on Lincoln Street.

Fiber Friends Set

Fiber Friends, a meeting of spinners and weavers will be noon-1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Alice Johnstone’s house, 213 Shotgun Alley.

 

School Board Meets

The Sitka School Board will hold a regular meeting 6 p.m. Aug. 26 in the District Office board room. The public is invited.

 

School Board Sets

Work Session

Members of the Sitka School Board will hold a work session in the District Office board room 4-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, to discuss board goals. 

 

Trail Works Hike

Set for Saturday

Sitka Trail Works will offer a free guided hike 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22. Sitka Trail Works president Brian Hanson will lead the hike from Thimbleberry Trailhead to Heart Lake and back. The 3.6-mile scenic hike is along two lakes. 

Hikers should meet at the Thimbleberry Trail head at 9 a.m. Those with  questions can call 747-7244.

 

BMS Gives Back

Event Aug. 27

Seventh- and eighth-graders can sign up for Blatchley Gives Back! community service 9-11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27. A pizza lunch will be provided at the school following volunteer work.

Students can sign up for a community service event at BMS. No transportation will be provided to and from the school on volunteer day.

Sixth-graders are reminded that this is the first day of classes.
