Memory Screenings
Offered Sept. 10
Memory screenings will be offered Sept. 10 at Brave Heart Volunteers, in the Pioneer Home Manager’s House. Amber Smith, M.D., and educational specialist for Alzheimer’s Resources of Alaska, will conduct the 30-minute screenings.
Memory screenings are designed for those having concerns about memory loss and the difference between normal aging and cognitive impairment for themselves or for a loved one.
“A memory screening consists of a series of questions and tasks to test memory, language skills, thinking ability and other intellectual functions. It can indicate whether an additional checkup by a qualified health care professional is needed. A screening is not used to diagnose any particular illness and does not replace consultation with a qualified physician or other health care providers,” organizers said.
No fees will be charged for the screening but appointments are required. Contact Krisanne Rice at Brave Heart Volunteers, 747-4600, or Amber Smith, Alzheimer’s Resources of Alaska at 907-586-6044 for additional details.
