Benefit Saturday

For Fortress at Pub

A comedy and burlesque fundraiser for Fortress of the Bear will be held  10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26.

The event will be  an ‘‘evening of laughter with a sprinkling of sultry burlesque,’’ the Pub said.

Tickets are available in advance at the Pub for $15 per person.

 

No School

The Sitka School District announces that there will be no school for all students Friday, Sept. 25, Monday, Sept. 28 and Tuesday, Sept. 29, for teacher inservice. All offices will remain open.

 

End Poverty

Webinar Sept. 27

Sitka RESULTS and Sitka High School will host a ‘‘Global Grassroots’’ webinar conversation with Dr. Jeffery Sachs of New York 8:30-10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at SHS.

The new Global Development goals to end poverty by 2030 will be the topic of conversation with Sachs.

Muffins will be available. Those attending may take their own coffee or tea and a friend. Access to the school will be through the front entrance. Call Michele, 752-0472, for further information.

 

Baranof School

Sets Open House

Baranof Elementary School will host an open house 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8.  

‘‘Spend an hour with us while your child shares what they have been working on and shows you around the school,’’ the school said. 

Baranof School has limited parking.  Parents are asked not to park at Market Center, the Elks Club or Fairweather Prints. The city parking lot has space to accommodate many vehicles and the Monastery Street door across from the Elks will be open. Parking is also available in the lot on the corner of Sawmill Creek Road and Baranof Street and one close to the playground on Baranof Street for Baranof parking.

Parents to Meet

Baranof Elementary School will hold a parent meeting noon Sept. 30 in the school library. It will include parents’ questions, networking and information on curriculum, positive behavior supports, and school-home connections.

Open Mic Set

Sitka Folk and the Greater Sitka Arts Council are hosting a benefit open mic at the Larkspur Cafe on Sunday, Sept. 27. Sign up is at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7. Call Ted at 747-5482 for more information.

 

 

Keystone Kops

Seeks Members

The Alaska Day Festival is seeking ‘‘tough and drama-free women’’ who are interested in fundraising and feathers.

Women are invited to joint the harbingers of the Alaska Day celebration by become Keystone Kops.
