Of Pelican Dies

Mary Louise Strahm, a Pelican resident for 42 years, died Oct. 11 in Sitka. She was 65.

She was born Sept. 2, 1950, in Seattle, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Jane (Slater) Kenny. She graduated from Rainier Beach High School in Seattle,  and married Willim E. Strahm in Seattle on June 16, 1968.

After moving to Pelican, she was assistant postmaster, a cook and a community activist, along with being a mom and wife.

Among her favorite pastimes were sewing and crafts, doing puzzles and cooking.

“Mary Lou was a friend to many, and will be missed,” her family said.

Her husband, William E. Strahm, died in June 2013.

She is survived by son Richard K. Strahm, his wife Christina and son Cody Strahm, all of Juneau; and son Jason R. Strahm, his wife Amber and son Christian and daughter Kimber, all of Pelican.

A celebration of life will be scheduled later. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
