Of Katlian Street
Sitka Maritime Heritage Society is seeking those who know about the history of Katlian Street boatyards, and maritime workers.
‘‘Please send us names of people who might have oral history, photos, or family memorabilia,’’ said Karen Martinsen. ‘‘We would like to have a panel of folks who know the area history and/or may have items we could use for display at our annual meeting, scheduled for Feb. 24 at ANB Founders Hall.’’

Training Feb. 1

Harp Sing Set
The 5th Sunday Sitka Sacred Harp Sing will be 3:30-5 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Sitka Pioneers Home Chapel. Singing from the Cooper Book will be the focus. Beginners and listeners are always welcome. Call 738-2089 with questions.

Meeting Sunday
Members and friends of Sitka Lutheran Church will gather on Sunday, Jan. 31, at 224 Lincoln Street for worship at 10:30 a.m. with Holy Communion followed by a potluck luncheon and fellowship.
Shannon Ongtowasruk and Pauline Ahkvaluk, along with Kathleen and Harvey Brandt, will be commissioned for their two-week medical mission work trip to Jamaica. Visitors are always welcome.
The annual congregational meeting (second half) begins at noon with celebration and reports of the past year’s ministry and plans for opportunities and challenges for gospel outreach and service in the coming year.

Wearable Arts
Show Dates Set
The Alaska Airlines Wearable Arts Runway Show, produced by the Greater Sitka Arts Council, will be held 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. March 26, at the Performing Arts Center.
The theme is “Alaska and 8 Stars”; artists may use it or not in their creations.
A mandatory dress rehearsal will be Friday, March 25.

Tickets go on sale two weeks in advance at Old Harbor Books and will be available at the door. Ticket prices for the matinee are $15 for 12 and older, $10 for those under 12 and free for kids under 5. The evening show ticket prices are $25 for 12 and older, $10 for those under 12 and free for kids under 5.
Every attendee at the evening show will be entered to win a door prize of two round-trip tickets anywhere Alaska Airlines flies.

Registration On
Registration for City League volleyball teams of all skill levels is now open. Those who don’t have a team may register online to find one.

Volleyball Clinics
Set in February
Community Schools is offering two volleyball clinics 7:30 p.m.-10 p.m. Feb. 2 and Feb. 4 at Blatchley Middle School. Cost for the clinic is $10, with proceeds to benefit the Sitka High School volleyball team.

Books and Conversations begins Feb. 11, and will meet 11 a.m. Thursdays at St. Peters by the Sea Episcopal Church, 611 Lincoln St.

College Aid
Event Jan. 31
College Goal Alaska, which provides free financial aid assistance to college-bound students, will offer a program in Sitka. The College Goal event will be held 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, at Sitka High School.
UAS Student Success Center advisors will be on hand to help parents and students fill out their applications. Participants should take their most recent tax return, W2 for 2015, and other income information.
Most students today need financial aid to attend college, and most of that aid – whether federal grants and loans, state grants and loans, or scholarships – requires the student to first fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA.
The average federal student aid grant is more than $3,000 – money that students won’t have to repaid.
The event is for anyone who wants to attend any college. Students of all local high schools, home school students and adults who are planning to attend college can benefit from it.
College Goal Alaska is a partnership of the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education, the ANCSA Education Consortium, ALASFAA, the University of Alaska, and USA Funds. Local Foods Group
To Host Meeting
Sitka Local Foods Network will host an informational session 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, at the Sitka Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall (408 Marine Street, parking off Spruce Street). The meeting should run for about an hour.
Sitka Farmers Market needs to overcome two challenges for the 2016 season and is seeking input from the public on:
– How to make the Sitka Farmers Market financially sustainable; and
– How to avoid scheduling events during the times Chelan Produce is in Sitka, now that Chelan Produce has changed its schedule.
A short presentation, followed by questions and discussion, will be on the program. Anyone interested in the Sitka Farmers Market is welcome. Snacks will be served.

Group to Meet
Sitka Veterans Association will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, at the SEARHC Campus Community Health Building first floor conference room.
The Sitka Veterans Memorial Park will be discussed and all veterans are invited to attend.
