Lent Services

Set at St. Peter’s

St. Peter’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church will offer a Holy Communion service 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays  throughout Lent (through March 23).

Stations of the Cross will be held on Fridays at noon during Lent.

All are welcome to attend. The church is at 611 Lincoln Street. For more information, call the church at 747-3977.

 

Science Saturday

Event at KGH

The community is invited to the Keet Gooshi Heen family science Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20.

Exhibitors include the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Maritime Refuge (Lazaria), Sitka Sound Science Center, University of Alaska Southeast, Sitka Conservation Society, 4-H, the Alaska Raptor Center and Sitka National Historical Park. The U.S. Forest Service will provide a stream table to model watersheds.

All exhibits will be hands-on or make-and-take. Short family star shows are planned in Starlab – a portable planetarium – as well as hands-on science exhibits presented by the Sitka High National Honor Society.

Voices of Tongass

Gathering Feb. 28

Those who care about the future of the Tongass, want to learn more about tiny homes, or how to promote local businesses are invited to join the staff and board of the Sitka Conservation Society for an evening with food, conversation and idea sharing.

The Voices of the Tongass Gathering will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28,  at the Sitka Kitch, in the Presbyterian Church, 505 Sawmill Creek Road. Sitkans are invited to bring their ideas about how to promote sustainable communities in Southeast Alaska.The annual meeting is free and open to the public. Adult Mushball

Signups Listed

Thursday at 6 p.m. is the deadline to register for Community Schools adult coed superdraft mushball. 

Mushball is played with a 16-inch ball soft enough that gloves are optional.

The draft will be at the Pub at 6 p.m. Individuals can register at the Pub or online at SitkaCommunitySchools.com. The games will be on Moller Field Saturday, Feb 27. 

‘‘The tournament will be a hoot, and a great way to ease on in to the softball season,’’ Community Schools said.

 

Maritime Heritage

Society to Meet

Sitka Maritime Heritage Society will hold its annual meeting 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the ANB Founders Hall.

A reception with an exhibit will be followed by a 7-9 p.m. program.

Those who have history of Katlian Street boatyards, maritime workers or ‘‘Katlian’’ life are invited to attend and/or share stories. Organizers said people should call in advance if they would like copies made of photos.
