BIG RIGS – Max Bennett, 2, checks out the steering on a steamroller during the 3 to 5 Preschool’s Big Rig fundraiser in front of Mt. Edgecumbe High School Saturday. Hundreds of kids and parents braved the wet weather to check out the assortment of machines, including road building trucks, a U.S. Coast Guard ANT boat, police cars and fire department rigs. Kids were able to ride as passengers on ATVs. (Sentinel Photo by James Poulson)

Alaska Air Lists New Schedule

By Sentinel Staff

After a steep reduction in flights during the COVID lockdown, Alaska Airlines service to and from Sitka will increase to the regular three in and three out per day on June 14.

During the height of the pandemic, the airline cut flights to one into and one out of Sitka daily.

For the moment, flights leave Sitka for Juneau at 5:40 a.m., and arrive from Juneau at 6 p.m.

Starting on June 14 however, the schedule will ramp up.

Flight 176 will leave for Juneau at 5:40 a.m. Flight 58 will depart for Seattle at 1:30 p.m. and Flight 67 will leave for Juneau at 6 p.m.

Arrivals will be Flight 91 from Juneau at 2:27 p.m.; Flight 70 from Juneau at 6:07 p.m. Note that Flight 70 will sometimes arrive from Juneau at 7:57 p.m.

All flight information is available on the Alaska Airlines website, though it is subject to change.

Wiethuchter recently wrote a letter to “Mayor Sitka, Alaska” asking about the town since he was here during World War II. He was an Army private at Fort Ray when he was attached to Armed Services Radio Station KRAY and WVCX ....
