City Warns: Time to Cut Electric Use

By Sentinel Staff
The city electric department has changed the hydroelectric power status, as indicated by a traffic light symbol, from green to yellow, and is asking residents to start conservation measures immediately.
Low lake levels may require the use of supplemental diesel generation to meet electrical demand, electric department director Chris Brewton announced today.
He said the levels of Blue Lake and Green Lake are below average, while recent cold weather has increased power demand and “failed to produce sufficient inflows to the lakes to provide full hydroelectric operations.”
“Please switch to non-electric heat source, if available, and take measures to reduce and conserve electrical usage,” Brewton said in a news release.
He said those with questions can contact Andy Eggen, generation manager, at 747-1886.
