A half-dozen Blatchley Middle School wrestlers competed in Craig last weekend at the Stikine Invitational Middle School Tournament and two came away with first-place finishes.
Caleb Suarez won the 110-pound weight class with three consecutive pins. Suarez didn’t allow a single point to be scored against him during the tournament.
Caleb Meyer competed in the same weight class and finished with a 1-2 record, winning by pin in his second match and losing by fall in the other two.
Joran Yocum also finished first at 265 by forfeit.
Jase Sorenson (115), Gus Bickar (210) and Camden Suarez (105) also competed at the Stikine Invitational and each finished third.
Sorenson went 3-1 with three pins in the deepest bracket of the tournament. Camden Suarez went 2-1 with two wins by decision and Gus Bickar won two of three matches by pin.
The Blatchley team went to the tournament under sponsorship of a parent group separate from the middle school, and finished sixth in the nine-team tournament. Craig, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Wrangell, Klawock, Hydaburg, Thorne Bay and Metlakatla also competed at the tournament.
