Roberta Lorraine Malewski, a former Sitka resident, died July 6, 2017, in Albany, Ore. She was 72,

Robbie was born Aug. 31, 1944, in Indiana, the youngest daughter of Orba and Evelyn Pate. She enjoyed life and always invited those around her to join in. Upon graduating high school she joined the U.S. Army, where she underwent advanced medical training. It was also where she met and married Ed Malewski. They enjoyed their life together, for 53 years, as they traveled the width and breadth of the country. Robbie made a wonderful home, filled with good food and laughter, always making friends and family feel special.

Though an avid reader, she made time for the outdoors. The family lived in Sitka from 1986 to 1992, and Robbie found it a special place for her – hiking in its grandeur, and of course enjoying the water and fishing.

Bowling and softball brought out her impressive competitive spirit, and the friendships she made in the Emblem Club lasted a lifetime.

After settling in Oregon, her farm girl roots again blossomed. Chickens, goats and whatever else wandered in were fed well and spoiled and never in danger of being part of dinner.

While living in various parts of the country, in addition to various volunteer activities, she took joy in playing tourist with her family.

Robbie was preceded in death by her parents; brother Carl; and sisters Helen and Patricia.

She is survived by her brother Gerry and sister Elaine; and her husband, Ed Malewski of Lebanon, Ore.

Her children and grandchildren are:  daughter Rachel, husband Bruno and their children Bruno, Katia and Lucas, of Johnston Iowa; son Ward, his wife Reneé and their son Jason of Meridian, Idaho; and daughter Jennifer, her husband Carl and their daughter Sarah, of Lebanon.
