Elaine Joyce Owens

Services for Elaine Joyce Owens are scheduled 12:15 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at First Baptist Church, 514 Halibut Point Road.
Mrs. Owens, a devoted, loving mother, grandmother and homemaker, died Dec. 25. She was 68.

She was born March 24, 1945, in Champaign, Ill., the daughter of Basil Ivan and Mary Elizabeth (Wilkins) Carrothers. She had a twin brother, Wayne, two other older brothers and two older sisters.
She graduated from high school in Urbana, Ill. She lived in other states before coming to Sitka from Urbana in 2004.
She was a member of the Baptist Church, and was a Volunteer in Mission at Sheldon Jackson College.
She loved God, family and living in Alaska, her family said.
She especially loved horses, hummingbirds and her dog, Heather, and enjoyed eating popcorn and watching movies with loved ones.
“Dear Mom (Nana), your warmth, love and laughter are missed and will continue to be missed,” her family wrote. “You will always be in our hearts. Be at peace now, and enjoy being with your twin brother, Wayne.
“We love you! xoxox !"
Survivors include her daughters, Katerina Koeppen, of Goldsboro, N.C., and Melissa Owens-Goff, Sitka; grandson Bryce Koeppen of Goldsboro; grandson Connor Goff and granddaughter Rowan Goff, both of Sitka; sisters Rose Marie (Rea) Chapman of Lawton, Okla., and Carolyn Ruschmann of Urbana; and brother Jerry Carrothers.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, 514 Halibut Point Road., Sitka, AK 99835; or Swan Lake Senior Center, 402 Lake St., Sitka, AK 99835.
