Kay Gichard

Katherine “Kay” Madeline Gichard, 88, died on April 23, 2014, in Ketchikan.
She was born to Zack and Anna Herman on Nov. 5, 1925, in Sitka, and graduated from Sitka High School in 1945.
She married Don Gichard on Jan. 28, 1961, in Ketchikan. In addition to Sitka and Ketchikan, she resided in Juneau and South Gate, Calif.
She was a member of Pioneers of Alaska, Women’s Bowling Assoc. and Women of the Moose.

She enjoyed watching Atlanta Braves baseball, playing pinochle, traveling, cooking and shopping at garage sales.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Zack and Anna Herman; and husband Don Gichard.
Mrs. Gichard is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janice Gichard and Jeff Barry of Ketchikan; grandson, Andrew (Amber) Gichard of Chugiak; and granddaughters, Eliza Gichard of Anchorage and Frances Barry of Ketchikan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Ketchikan Pioneers Home Foundation, 141 Bryant St, Ketchikan, AK 99901.
A memorial service will be officiated by the Rev. Doug Edwards at 2 p.m. on May 3, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of Ketchikan. A reception will follow the memorial service.
