Dies in Juneau
Services have been scheduled for Nadine Ramona Jones, a former Sitkan who died May 8 in Juneau.
A memorial gathering will be at 5:30 p.m. tonight at St. Michael’s Cathedral. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 16, at St. Michael’s Cathedral. A luncheon will be held at the American Legion following burial at Sitka National Cemetery.
Nadine was born Sept. 5, 1955, in Sitka, the daughter of Norise Hanlon (Church) and Joseph E. Howard. She graduated from Sitka High School then moved to Juneau. She married Richard Ike Jones there on Oct. 16, 1976.
An accountant, she worked for several firms and the State of Alaska.
She moved back to Sitka in September 2003, and remained here until returning to Juneau in 2012.
Nadine loved to bake pies, and be with her grandchildren – she enjoyed having children around. She raised two boys who excelled in sports, and became chefs.
Nadine’s mother died Feb. 23, 2012, and her father on Oct. 20, 2014.
She is survived by son Mickey Jones of Portland, Ore., and his children, Gabrielle A. Palmer and Trystan S. Slack; son Snuffy Jones of Portland; brother Joseph Howard I of Auburn, Wash., and his children, Rusty Howard, Joseph Howard III and George Howard; brother Michael Howard of Sitka and his children, Michael, Jeffrey and George Howard; brother Noriss “Serge” Howard of Sitka; sister Eva Howard of Juneau and her children, Norman Howard and Christine Smith; and sister Twylia Osborne of Sitka and her children, Christina Johnson, Stacy Roberts and Cara Dicicco.
Honorary pallbearers are John Nielsen, Robert Nielsen, Dennis Cropley, Bob Kinville Sr., Rick McGee and Michael Howard Sr.
Pallbearers will be Mickey Dee Jones, Snuffy Morgan Jones, Kenneth Nielsen Jr., Jeffrey Howard, George Howard and Leonard Nielsen.
