The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:

May 17

A man said his employer had put a stop payment on his paycheck. He was told it was a civil matter and given some options.

A suitcase left at a church was dropped off at the police station. Officers contacted the owner, who said she’d had some things to do and had stored the suitcase at the church. She claimed the suitcase.

A caller asked for a check on a woman who was not answering her phone. Police talked to the woman’s husband who said he was with his wife at an appointment and she was fine.

At 1:44 p.m. police checked on a man reported acting strangely in the 1700 block of SMC. The man told police he had had too much coffee, but was otherwise fine.

At 4 p.m. a man slumped over his steering wheel in a parking lot told police he was really tired. He was advised to leave the vehicle where it was and find another means of transportation home. The man’s girlfriend was inside a store and was advised of the situation.

People kicking a soccer ball and hitting cars in a parking lot on Seward Street were advised to stop. Police saw no damage to any of the cars.

At 5:40 p.m. a man asked for police help because he was in an argument with his girlfriend, and was concerned about a possible escalation in the conflict. Both said the argument was just verbal, and the man was advised of his options regarding an eviction process. The woman called 45 minutes later to report her boyfriend was cutting the wires to the TV and other appliances. He was gone when police arrived, and officers said it was a civil matter since he was destroying his own property. She was later removed from the home by the boyfriend, and complained to police about it.

At 10:25 p.m. a driver went the wrong way through the roundabout, police were told.

May 18

A resident reported problems dealing with the presence of a woman at his brother’s residence was advised of his options.
