Wolves End Season By Beating Juneau-Douglas

The Sitka High soccer team capped its 2016 season with its first-ever win over Juneau-Douglas High school.
The come-from-behind 3-1 win here Saturday followed a 0-0 tie Friday afternoon.

Juneau-Douglas jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half of Saturday’s game. Sitka coach Eric Van Cise said he and assistant coach Dennis DeWinter “re-tooled” the team’s approach for the second half.
Jes Waldemar evened the game at 1, and eight minutes later gave Sitka a 2-1 lead on a pass from Ethan Pike. Pike scored Sitka’s final goal on a penalty kick that Van Cise said Pike took despite being injured on the play. Van Cise said he “speculated there was a wee bit of pain and pay-back in that strike.”
Sitka tied Juneau-Douglas in Friday’s game, but Van Cise said he was pleased with the effort and that the team was aggressive throughout.
“The team played with confidence, smart ball handling and winning 50/50 balls with all of the players hitting their best performances,” the coach said in an email.
Sitka competed as a co-ed team and finished the season at 4-6-2. Seniors Walter Palof, Victor Quintana and Isaac De La Torre’-Hernandez closed out their final season in the weekend match.
