LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
Aug. 23
At 11:06 a.m. a caller said a rooster regularly causes a disturbance at Mills Street and Georgeson Loop. The animal control officer spoke with the rooster’s owner, who agreed to rehome the rooster.
At 2:04 p.m. a man said his friend had found his mini-motorized bike that was stolen Sunday, but the woman who had it wouldn’t give it back. An officer went with the man to see about getting the bike back.
At 3:25 p.m. the harbor master asked for help with an intoxicated man at Thomsen Harbor. The man blew a PBT of .336, and was taken to a hospital.
A caller complained about a neighbor who had several dogs that run at large and defecate in yards.
At 7 p.m. a caller said an intoxicated woman was going in and out of traffic near Sandy Beach. Officers talked to someone matching the description and found no sign of impairment.
At 7:24 p.m. a man reported seeing a bear at 5:55 p.m. walk across the roadway in the 1600 block of SMC. The man said he waved his arms and yelled but the bear was not alarmed.
At 8:19 p.m. a woman reported her bike was missing from Hirst Street.
At 9:10 p.m. a caller said a chocolate Lab and another dog were in his yard on Lance Drive. At 9:29 p.m. a volunteer reported the dogs were being put in the animal shelter.
At 11:09 p.m. a harbors employee said a man near the restrooms at Eliason Harbor was too intoxicated to care for himself. He blew .298 on a PBT, and an officer left him in the care of friends.
Aug. 24
At 1:59 a.m. a caller reported a fight was in progress at the ANB Harbor, with several people standing around watching. Officers detained two men. One was given a disorderly conduct warning and left on foot, and the other was placed in 12-hour hold.
At 3:26 a.m. a caller said a man dressed in black had been sitting by the rock wall in the old Porky’s Equipment on Burkhart Street for the past half hour, doing nothing. He was gone when officers arrived.
At 5:47 a.m. officers cited two vehicles for parking in the 200 block of Lincoln Street.

James Nielsen, 61, was cited for having an open container at the skate park Tuesday morning.
In Court
Three charges of assault in the fourth degree filed against Tyler M. Peterson, 31, were dismissed without prejudice.
A charge of assault in the fourth degree filed against Victoria Lynn Martin, 56, was dismissed without prejudice.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department got ambulance calls at 2:41 p.m., 3:44 p.m. and 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, and 2:34 a.m. today.
At 12:21 a.m. today a fuel smell was reported at 109 Anna Street but the source was not found.
Coast Guard
A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter crew medevacked an ailing 17-year-old girl from Klawock to Sitka. The helicopter launched after 11 p.m. Tuesday and returned at 3 a.m. today.
