The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
Oct. 14
At 7:26 a.m. a bear was reported crossing SMC from Totem Park.
At 7:58 a.m. a caller said a man was sleeping or passed out outside her apartment. Officers talked to two men, one who had locked himself out of his apartment and was angry, and another man who was intoxicated and was placed in protective custody.
A caller said money was taken from his wallet on his boat at ANB Harbor.
At 5:43 p.m. a caller said a bike rider wearing dark clothing was swerving in and out of the traffic lane in the 3300 block of HPR, going against traffic.
At 10:27 p.m. a caller said three juveniles who may have been drinking were staggering on Indian River Road.
At 10:30 p.m. a caller said a vehicle had backed into Centennial Hall.
At 10:38 p.m. a caller reported hearing an explosion on Gavan Street.
At 10:41 p.m. a caller on Brady Street reported an explosion. Officers and SFD checked but found no source.
At 11:18 p.m. a Brady Street resident reported hearing an explosion.
At 11:51 p.m. a caller said three kids knocked over trash cans and pushed a harbor hand cart with gas cans to the beach in the 1300 block of SMC. An officer talked to three males, who had loaded a boat at the beach.
Oct. 15
At 1:30 a.m. and 2:35 a.m. callers reported fireworks in the 200 block of Katlian. Officers found no source.
At 2:28 a.m. a 911 caller on Seward Street reported hearing fireworks.
At 3:32 a.m. a caller said an intoxicated man and woman were screaming as they walked in the middle of HPR, in the 3300 block, and at one point the man was nearly hit by a vehicle. Officer gave the two rides home.
At 4:19 a.m. a caller said a bear was at the neighbors’ chicken coop on Jamestown Drive. An officer found trash cans knocked over but no bear.
At 4:38 a.m. a Jamestown Drive resident said a bear was behind her home.
At 4:39 a.m. a caller said he tried for the past few hours to give an intoxicated woman a ride home. An officer talked to her and gave her a ride home.
At 8 a.m. a caller said it appeared a bear got into a lodge’s garbage, in the 4100 block of HPR. Police notified DOT since there was glass in the road. Officers, unable to contact anyone with the lodge, cleaned up the garbage.
At 9:34 a.m. a Jamestown Drive resident said a bear had been at the house at 3 a.m., and although the garbage can was bolted the bear took the entire can, drug it up the street and left it in a vacant lot. The caller said the bear didn’t get any garbage and when a seal bomb was lit the bear ran into the woods.
At 10:28 a.m. a bear was reported to have from Totem Park across SMC.
A caller said a client had asked her for help but when she got to his house it was locked. She could talk to him through the door, and when officers arrived he gave them permission to get in any way they could. Once in, officers smelled propane and called a fire truck. The man was taken to the hospital.
At 2 p.m. a man was reported slumped over in the 100 block of Lake Street. He registered a .402 on a PBT and was taken to a hospital.
At 2:28 p.m. a caller said a vehicle had backed into two vehicles in a parking lot in the 300 block of Seward. Two pedestrians were injured, and one was taken to a hospital with chest pains.
A hospital asked for help with a combative patient. Officers deemed him too intoxicated to care for himself and placed him on 12-hour hold.
At 5:14 p.m. a man was reported yelling profanities at children at the skate park. Officers talked to the man, who admitted yelling but said he wasn’t yelling at anyone, just yelling. He registered a .224 in a PBT, and was given a disorderly conduct warning.
A caller asked whether police had confirmed sightings of any clowns. She said her daughter told her there was a rumor at school of a clown sighting. She said she’d call if she heard more.
At 11:40 p.m. a caller said fireworks were being set off at ANB Harbor. Officers found where the fireworks were being shot off. Several people run off.
Oct. 16
At 12:52 a.m. a bar asked that a man who had yelled at the bartender be criminally trespassed.
At 1:02 a.m. a caller said two bears were in her yard. She said one appeared to be aggressive and the other a scaredy cat. Officers found no sign of the bears.
At 2 a.m. a caller said a woman fell off her bike in the 1800 block of HPR. She had face injuries but refused help. She and a man with her left on foot.
At 2:38 a.m. a caller said a bear on Shotgun Alley had hit a garbage can. The caller cleaned it up.
At 5 a.m. a caller reported hearing a woman scream “Let me go” at a home. Officers spoke to residents who said they were tending to a very intoxicated friend, and all else was OK.
At 5:33 a.m. a woman said a man came to her home and stole her truck. She also said the man punched her in the face and put his hands around her neck, and a relative had to pull him off her. She was taken to the hospital.
At 6:28 a.m. EMS said a woman recently taken to the hospital apparently got upset and walked away, wearing inappropriate attire for the weather. An officer found her and gave her a ride.
A caller reported a bear was tipping over garbage cans at 7:30 a.m. in the 2000 block of SMC.
At 2:12 p.m. a sink hole was reported at the industrial park.
At 4:26 p.m. a caller said two kids were climbing on a boat on Price Street and refusing to leave. They ran away when an officer arrived.
At 7:29 p.m. a caller said intoxicated people were being loud in an apartment and it sounded like a fight. Officers spoke to a man who said he was enjoying a football game.
At 11 p.m. officers went to the 5200 block of HPR where a man was reported punching the windows of his RV. He was given a warning, and left on foot.
A caller in the 1900 block of SMC said a bear cache was against his trailer.
At 4 a.m. an Andrew P. Hope Street resident heard noise outside her home. Officers found no sign of wildlife.
Sitka Police
Zachary A. Loewen, 26, was cited Friday morning for violating conditions of release by consuming alcohol.
Jonathan Brian Scott, 46, was charged Saturday with assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence.
In Court
Christi May Ruth Greinier, 21, Kenmore, Wash., on a charge of reckless driving was sentenced to 30 days, suspended, and fined $1,000. She will be on probation until Oct. 12, 2017.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department got two ambulance calls Friday; five on Saturday; four Sunday; and three today. At 12:43 p.m. Saturday a ladder truck as sent to blow propane out of a house in the 1700 block of HPR.
