February 21, 2017 Police Blotter

The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:

Feb. 17

A trespass warning was issued to keep a man out of a grocery store. He was later taken into protective custody.

At 8:04 a.m. a driver was reported to have slid off the road in the 2900 block of HPR, hitting a guardrail and knocking off the front of his bumper. He told police he wasn’t injured, and the vehicle was off the road.

A caller said the greenhouse behind Pacific High School had been destroyed in the past week. Police found damage but nothing missing.

A trespass warning was signed.

At 12:11 p.m. a two-vehicle traffic accident was reported. Damage and a knee injury were reported.

A caller said he was helping two men push a boat into the water at Eagle Beach, and one of them fell in. He appeared to have been drinking, the caller said, and wasn’t moving on the beach. The man was taken to the hospital.

A man asked to talk with an officer about threats against his wife made by a violent man.

At 4:30 p.m. a man was reported  kicking and cursing in the 1100 block of HPR.

A caller said a man asked to leave a bar several times kept returning. He was given a disorderly conduct warning and told to stay away for the night. 

A woman said her intoxicated husband insisted she take him to a bar, which she did, but he refused to leave.  Police talked to both who were intoxicated but able to care for themselves.

A person reported to have cut herself was taken to the hospital.

Feb. 18

A criminal trespass was signed to keep a person out of a bar, at 2 a.m.

An ambulance was called for a  90-year-old man who had fallen a few days ago and was in pain.

A man reported losing his wallet with ID, possibly near a bar.

A woman said a dog she was walking downtown was attacked by another dog that was off-leash.

Police were shown a photo of bear tracks found on Herring Cove Road.

At 3:08 p.m. a Jack Russell terrier was seen on Gavan trail by itself. A resident picked it up to take to the shelter.

A resident said eggs were thrown at his truck on Edgecumbe Drive.

At 6:34 p.m. a man was reported hitchhiking in the 2600 block of HPR.

At 10:37 p.m. a caller complained about a noisy bonfire party on Cascade Road. Police issued a warning.

Two juveniles under age 18 were cited for minor consuming.

At 11:36 p.m. a man was reported passed out behind a building. He left before officers arrived. Two men there were told not to sleep in the facility.

Feb. 19

A woman having trouble starting a fire in a wood stove was helped by officers, who opened the stove damper.

Police got several calls of speeding or reckless driving over the weekend.

A man was reported yelling on Wolff Drive. He was taken inside his house by his family, officers were told.

At 2:53 p.m. a man was seen beating his dog in the 800 block of HPR. The animal control officer was advised.

A resident said her daughter in Alabama told her the father’s girlfriend had struck her in the mouth. She was given the number to contact in Alabama.

A man was reported contacting a woman and her boyfriend despite a domestic violence order. Officers got conflicting reports about the incident, and found no evidence of a crime.

At 9:50 p.m. a man was reported rummaging through a car near Peterson and Edgecumbe. Police arrested a man.

Feb. 20

At 5:07 a.m. TSA reported a loaded firearm in checked luggage. Police took possession of the ammunition and the firearm was released back to the owner, who got on the plane.

At 9:20 a.m. a resident in the 2300 block of HPR said she heard a gunshot in the night and had found what might be a bullet hole in a window.

At 2:30 p.m. a man was reported looking into boats on float 3 on Crescent Harbor. Officers confirmed he was working on a boat.

A caller said a large amount of heating fuel was missing from the tank, and some was spilled on the ground. The fuel company was to give her a locking fuel cap and refill the tank.

At 10:55 p.m. a caller said a vehicle parked for some time at Halibut Point Rec had its lights on. Officers notified the vehicle’s owner.

 

Sitka Police

Jeffrey J. Baxter, 28, was remanded for violating conditions of release after  allegedly testing positive for drugs.

Melanie L. Levens, 27, was remanded over a breath sample taken during her regular PBT check.

Conner J. Forrey, 23, was charged  Sunday with criminal trespass in the second degree and disorderly conduct, and remanded for violating release conditions.

 

Emergency Calls

Sitka Fire Department received ambulance calls at 12;11 p.m., 12;33 p.m., 8:57 p.m., 10:14 p.m. and 11:10 p.m. Friday; 9:05 a.m., 10:56 a.m., 3:11 p.m. and 11:11 p.m. Saturday; 12:20 a.m., 10:13 a.m., 12:15 p.m. Sunday; and 4:05 p.m. Monday.
