LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
March 17
A two-vehicle accident was reported in the snow on O’Connell Bridge at 10:50 a.m. No injuries were apparent.
A visitor reported losing a Lumix dsx6 camera, in a soft neoprene case.
A vehicle slid into a ditch at Tongass and Airport Road. There were no injuries and the vehicle was removed.
At 12:32 p.m. a minor traffic accident with no injuries was reported near Thomsen Harbor.
A caller said someone used her social security number to file a tax return.
A vehicle reported stuck in a ditch in the 2700 block of HPR was removed.
At 1:37 p.m. a vehicle was reported blocking traffic on Davidoff Street. A message was left for public works.
A broken water main was reported at HPR and Crabapple at 2:05 p.m.
At 2:25 p.m. a snowplow was reported speeding on Indian River Road.
A caller said her juvenile daughter was getting pot from her stepmother.
At 3:22 p.m. an intoxicated man was reported stumbling in traffic in the 1300 block of SMC.
Ambulances were called for a woman with chest pains; and a man whose LifeAlert alarm went off by accident.
A caller said a man had threatened to harm himself and had a knife. He wa was taken to the hospital with a cut.
A Dodge truck ran over several traffic cones at Crabapple, a caller said.
March 18
A man who called for an ambulance didn’t answer his door to police. He was already at the ER and was fine.
Three juveniles under 18 were cited for minor consuming.
An ambulance was called for an intoxicated woman in distress
A box of trash left near the ballfields on the Cross Trail had a juvenile’s name on several papers inside. The boy’s parent was called.
At 12:12 p.m. a vehicle was reported to have slid off Shelikof Drive.
An injured eagle was reported in the national park.
A caller said she was fearful after her husband chased the dogs with a walker and laughed at her. Police advised her of her options.
At 3:39 p.m. a man reported his vehicle had gone into a ditch at 5000 HPR. It was removed, with no damage.
At 4:45 p.m. hazardous road conditions were reported in the 4200 block of HPR.
At 6:30 p.m. two children were reported throwing snowballs at passing cars in the 900 block of HPR. They were given a ride home in a patrol car.
Police were asked to check on a distraught woman in the 1800 block of HPR. She left before officers arrived.
March 19
At 2 a.m. police intervened in a family dispute over a cell phone, a juvenile and parents, and the distribution of marijuana and cigarettes. All agreed to go to bed, and the OCS was advised.
A caller said she thought her cat was at the shelter. She was advised to call during business hours.
A woman who fell on concrete on Katlian was taken to the hospital.
A caller said a woman was threatening to harm herself. Officers found she was intoxicated but she denied wanting to harm herself.
A traffic accident with no injuries was reported downtown at 12:11 p.m.
A traffic accident with no injuries was reported on Seward Street.
An ambulance was called for a man with heart palpitations.
A caller said she lost her Coach wallet at the Lincoln Street post office.
At 6:37 p.m. a woman going door to door looking for a man on Cascade Creek Road was notified that the neighborhood is on “high alert” due to recent drug activity. She agreed to leave.
At 9:05 p.m. a caller said her vehicle was gone through while she picked up takeout food on Katlian Street.
Sitka Police
Ramon R. Hernandez-Ulloa, 31, was remanded Saturday for being in violation of conditions of his release.
Valerie J. Connell, 53, was charged early Sunday with driving under the influence.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 4:29, 5:40 and 8:19 p.m. Friday; 2:06 a.m., 2:51 a.m. and 2:07 p.m. Saturday; and 10:57 a.m., 2:36 p.m. and 10:02 p.m. Sunday.
At 2:59 p.m. Sunday a fire truck was sent to an agency on a false alarm.
Coast Guard
A Coast Guard helicopter from Air Station Sitka on Sunday medevacked a 53-year-old woman from Haines to Juneau, after she experienced cardiac issues, the Coast Guard said.
