Police Blotter
The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
March 20
An ambulance was called for a woman who was reported unresponsive.
At 11:20 a.m. a hotel clerk asked for help getting a guest to leave because it was past checkout time. The guest was gone when officers checked.
At 5:53 p.m. a woman hit her Life Alert button after she fell and couldn’t get up. An ambulance and officer responded, but the woman said she didn’t need to go to the hospital.
Police responded to a report that a woman was intoxicated and threatening to cut herself. She told police she didn’t want to cut herself and was planning to stay somewhere else for the night. Police said she was able to care for herself.
March 21
At 1:38 a.m. a resident called 911 to report a man tried to steal liquor from behind the bar at a bar. A criminal trespass form was signed and served.
At 2:37 a.m. a Coast Guard official asked police to help find the source of an EPIRB alarm that was going off around the 1000 block of HPR. Police saw a number of boats anchored up in the area, inside the breakwater, but none seemed to be in distress.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 1:15 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:55 p.m., 5:57 p.m. and 8:25 p.m. Monday.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
