TRUCK FIRE – Firefighters knock down a fire in a Ford Explorer truck in Arrowhead Trailer Park in the 1200 block of Sawmill Creek Road Saturday evening. One person received fire-related injuries and was taken to the hospital, Sitka Fire Department Chief Craig Warren said, and the truck was considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Warren said. The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
April 14
A man passed out at a laundromat was taken in to protective custody.
A park service worker said a Crown Royal bag containing pot was found.
A woman said her estranged husband keeps taking her money. She was advised it was a civil issue.
A caller asked for a welfare check on a man lying in the grass near Sitka National Park visitors center. He told police he was just enjoying the weather, and was fine. Police said no alcohol was involved.
At 3:14 p.m. a caller said a man riding a scooter might be intoxicated. Officers located the man at a business and learned he was having trouble walking straight due to an impairment.
A caller said a school bus driver was harassing the caller’s son. He was advised it was a civil issue.
A phone was left in a taxi.
At 5:11 p.m. small children were reported running into traffic. The adult with them was told of the complaint.
At 9:20 p.m. a caller reported suspicious activity on Andrew Hope Street. The caller later went to the hospital.
April 15
A caller said he was looking for a girl he has a crush on and isn’t responding to his texts, possibly because she gave him the wrong number or he was “creeping her out.” He is on medication and needed a place to stay for the night. He was encouraged to go to the hospital for treatment and help.
A man reported harassing an employee at a business was served with a criminal trespass order.
At 2 p.m. a caller said a small dog bit an 8-year-old boy who was on his scooter on Cathedral Way. An older man picked up the dog and left. The animal control officer was advised.
At 2:13 p.m. a restaurant owner asked for help getting a man to leave, and a criminal trespass form to sign.
Police gave a juvenile a warning for driving in violation of her instruction permit, and talked to her parent.
A grocery store window was keyed.
A caller complained about a neighbor’s regular Saturday night poker game, and guests who park on her property despite requests not to do so. The host said her guests have disregarded her requests not to park on neighbors’ property, and suggested the neighbor have the vehicles cited or towed.
A caller complained a fish plant’s overflowing garbage containers are attracting birds, and spreading the garbage around. The plant manager said the garbage had been cleaned up.
Police talked to a couple reported arguing. The man was told to leave for the day. Both were intoxicated but able to care for themselves.
A hospital employee asked to talk to an officer about an accusation a patient had made against him.
A caller said a woman who had been drinking and was asked to leave an apartment refused to do so. Officers found they were able to care for themselves, and told them if they wanted to make a complaint to do so when sober.
April 16
At 12:17 a.m. a caller said St. Michael’s bells were ringing, possibly for Easter but the caller wasn’t sure because it sounded like someone possibly intoxicated had broken in and was just ringing the bells. Police found a bishop was conducting an Easter ceremony, and the bell ringing was likely planned.
Police advised people going through a thrift store garbage at 2:37 a.m. not to do so, and to leave the property.
A resident said her 17-year-old cockatiel got out and was in the trees between Shelikof Drive and Eberhart Street. She said when she called his name, “Cinnamon,” he would answer then go quiet. She said the bird can say “pretty bird,” purrs like a cat, sings and is friendly, but is probably scared because he never goes outside. The animal control officer was notified.
A man too intoxicated to care for himself in the 500 block of SMC was taken to a hospital after blowing a PBT reading of .361. He was later taken into protective custody.
A leather card holder containing $1 was turned in to police.
At 3:30 p.m. two men and a woman were reported drinking out of a flask near a liquor store yelling at passersby. They were gone when police checked.
Police talked to a man who became aggressive after a store employee told him the store wouldn’t buy a DVD he had bought at Fred Meyer in Juneau. He agreed not to return for the day.
A man who left a North Face backpack in a taxi was advised to call later when the driver was back on duty.
A domestic argument was reported. A man told officers the women had left.He was intoxicated but able to care for himself, police said.

Adam R. Allen, 50, was remanded Friday with violating conditions of release by allegedly consuming alcohol.
Brandon Barger, 19, Kelsey Vonscheerschmidt, 19, and Isaiah Primacio, 20, were cited Saturday by the U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement for alleged minor consuming and possession of marijuana on federal land.
Ashley Grearson, 31, was remanded Sunday for violating conditions of release by allegedly consuming alcohol.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 12:10 p.m., 6:09 p.m. and 11:50 p.m. Friday; 11:53 a.m. Saturday; and 11:15 a.m. Sunday.
