The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
April 21
A car passed a stopped school bus in the 1300 block of SMC.
A caller said drivers were speeding on Jeff Davis Street.
Two cats from POW were turned in.
A Chrysler key with a Tinkerbell identifier on it was turned in.
A Seward Street resident said a package delivered that day was ripped open and left in the street, with its contents still inside and undamaged.
A Rawlings baseball mit was found in the middle of Lincoln Street.
A worker asked that an irate woman be removed from a city office. She was escorted off the property, given a trespass warning, and told to make an appointment if she wanted to return.
Keys found at Halibut Point Rec area were turned in.
A man who fell was helped up He refused medical service at 4:53 p.m.
At 6:15 p.m. kids were reported running around on the roof of a gangplank at the end of Lincoln Street.
April 22
At 2:11 a.m. a caller said people with flashlights were in an RV. They told police they planned to purchase the RV from the owner. Police were unable to reach the owner.
At 9:48 a.m. a 911 caller reported a heated argument on Granite Creek Road, with a man throwing boiling water around an RV. The caller went outside with her infant son to wait for police. The man later called, wanting to tell his side of the story. He left the area after police talked to him, and a friend helped the woman get her belongings.
Harbors was told a log was floating by the Japonski work float at 10 a.m.
A caller said a hypodermic needle was found the 900 block of SMC.
At 1:51 p.m. a driver hit a lamp post and smashed in the front of her car. No injuries were reported.
At 2:50 p.m. a man was reported snoring on the ground on Baranof Street. An ambulance was called.
A man was reported arguing with his father at a grocery store. He calmed down after officers arrived.
Police told two people arguing, tailgating and flipping each other off to stay away from each other.
A caller said two men were trying to steal seats from his truck at Sealing Cove Harbor as they collected his tools. The men left but the caller said he wanted to pursue charges.
A woman called police from a boat about 90 minutes from town to report she was arguing with a man who had hit her. Officers found the man hadn’t been on the boat with her at any time.
A caller said teenage boys yelled obscenities as they drove around and passed her 10-year-old daughter and friends. A second parent called with the same complaint, around 6:30-7 p.m.
At 7:35 p.m. a resident was reported bleeding from the head but conscious. An ambulance was called.
A cosmetic bag was turned.
At 9:47 p.m. a man shooting fireworks downtown was given a warning.
At 10:34 p.m. kids were reported under the bridge. They were warned about curfew and having a fire.
April 23
Public works was notified about glass on Indian River Road.
License plates were stolen off a car.
A Samsung S7 Edge was found.
ATVs were reported in the 4500 block of HPR at 2:15 p.m.
A collision on Price Street with no injuries or damage was documented.
A caller reported smelling burning plastic at a Starrigavan parking lot.
Smoke reported off Granite Creek at 9:10 p.m. was a controlled burn.
A man who hadn’t called to report he had returned from his hike turned out to be fine, at 9:15 p.m.
Sitka Police
Donald L. Vanasdoll, 52, was arrested Saturday on a charge of driving under the influence, and cited for driving with a suspended license.
James J. Nielsen, 61, was remanded Saturday on a charge of violating release conditions for allegedly consuming alcohol.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 12:53, 3:03, 4:53 and 8:30 p.m. Friday; 2:50, 3:10, 3:11 and 4:10 p.m. Saturday; 4:55 and 8:04 p.m. Sunday; and 4:10 a.m. today.
At 2:05 p.m. Saturday a fire truck was sent to 102 Rudolph Walton Street on a report of a brush fire. Fire Chief Dave Miller said the small fire started in a burn barrel fire, and was quickly doused by police and firefighters.
At 9:33 p.m. Sunday a fire truck was sent to the Granite Creek quarry for an unattended controlled burn, which was put out by firefighters.
