The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
April 27
At 8 a.m. a caller reported a white dog that was limping was in the 1000 block of HPR. Officers called the possible owner but she said her dog was at home on its tether. The ACO was advised.
At 8:32 a.m. a driver near the high school was warned about a broken taillight.
At 10:47 a.m. a trifold wallet found outside a downtown restaurant was turned in. It contained ID and about $70 in cash. Officers called the owner, who claimed it.
At 11:49 a.m. an Alaska Airlines employee reported a suitcase had been left on the curb. Officers collected it, found identification in it and contacted the owner.
A resident reported receiving a call from a man in Virginia saying he had her medical records and could have a doctor prescribe her medications. She told police she knew it was a scam. She was advised to call IC3.gov.
At 1:10 p.m. a 911 caller said he’d just seen his four-wheeler in the back of someone else’s truck, at Starrigavan boat launch. The caller said he had left the vehicle on Kruzof. He called back later to say he had contacted the man responsible for the truck who said he had agreed to pick up a friend’s ATV and bring it to town, and had gotten the wrong one. The caller said the two had gotten it straightened out and no assistance was needed.
At 1:51 p.m. a caller reported seeing a white Ford Explorer swerving pretty badly and crossing the center and white lines many times, inbound on HPR. Officers were unable to locate a vehicle matching the description.
At 4:11 p.m. a 911 caller said her 6-year-old son had jumped off the back of a couch and was now complaining of back pain and being unable to move. By the time
EMS arrived he was starting to move his limbs. He was taken to a hospital.
At 4:36 p.m. a caller said he had locked himself by accident in a business’s bathroom. The business owner helped get the door open.
At 6:03 p.m. a 911 caller said a friend had fallen and couldn’t get back up. EMT helped him up but he refused to be taken to a hospital.
At 7:14 p.m. a woman said her car had been struck during the night while parked at the Crescent Harbor parking lot. The damage was documented.
At 11:38 p.m. a caller said she was worried a relative was unable to care for himself. Officers and EMS went to his home and found him asleep and in no apparent need of medical attention.
At 11:58 p.m. a caller reported finding a man passed out in a downtown bank lobby. He was taken to a hospital, which called later to say he was medically cleared but needed to be held due to his high level of intoxication.
April 28
At 2:46 a.m. a caller at a HPR trailer park said he tends to be awakened about this time by a neighbor yelling for his dog, and then a vehicle with a loud exhaust usually comes in. The caller said he didn’t know if the events are related. Officers talked to the dog owner, advised him of the complaint and gave him disorderly conduct warning.
At 3:42 a.m. officers cited a vehicle at the airport for overtime parking.
At 3:49 a.m. an officer cited a vehicle abandoned at the Castle Hill parking area.
In Court
Zachary A. Loewen, 27, on a charge of criminal trespass in the second degree upon premises was found guilty and sentenced to 20 days with 15 suspended. He will be on probation until April 21, 2018. A charge of criminal trespass in the second degree upon premises was dismissed.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department responded to six ambulance calls Thursday.
Coast Guard
U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Sitka responded to a mayday call from the Petersburg area at 6:40 p.m. Thursday.
Nothing was found, and the search was suspended.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
