The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
May 15
Two trespass warnings were signed against two Blatchley students to keep them off Baranof school grounds.
A woman said a bear scattered trash in the 700 block of Indian River Road. She said her husband told her he cleaned it up but she would double check. Officers gave her some options for dealing with the high volume of bear activity in the neighborhood.
A caller said tour buses were speeding on HPR. Officers were advised.
A man said his silver Dell XPS laptop was stolen either in the Juneau airport or on Flight 70 Sunday night.
A woman fell down but was able to get up and wasn’t bleeding, police were told. An ambulance responded.
At 1:59 p.m. a visitor said two men and a woman in a bar has just stolen his backpack. Inside the black backpack were a passport, $200 in cash, an iPad, a pair of Alaskan Rider glasses, a blue Nike jacket and another jacket. Police helped him search.
A man asked the animal control officer for help getting his injured dog to the vet. An officer found the dog to be uninjured.
Police told a bus company owner to be mindful of flashing school bus lights after complaints were received.
A man said his girlfriend was being verbally abusive, and he and his son were outside the home. Police found no evidence of a crime. The couple agreed to separate for the night.
At 7:56 p.m. a resident reported seeing a man trying to shove a female into a four-door car in the 1000 block of HPR. Police were unable to locate the car, and found nothing amiss.
At 8:40 p.m. a woman said a man came to visit his old dog that now belongs to her, and ended up taking it without permission and was refusing to return messages to return the dog. Police advised the two of their options.
At 9:10 p.m. police gave a disorderly conduct to a man after he was reported fighting on Baranof and DeGroff streets. He had been drinking but was able to care for himself.
At 10:33 p.m. the driver of a dark four-door Ford truck was reported racing without headlights on Lance Drive.
May 16
At 1:41 a.m. a caller reported haring rustling at Indian River Road and Andrew P. Hope Street. Officers found no evidence of a bear when they checked.
At 2 a.m. a caller asked for help with his ex who was intoxicated and refusing to leave. The woman left, and the man signed a criminal trespass.
At 2:14 a.m. a woman who sounded intoxicated asked to talk to a detective, but was unable to coherently convey where she was before the line disconnected. She called back a few times, and officers talked to her.

Lynda L. Watts, 48, was remanded early today for allegedly violating conditions of release by consuming alcohol.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 1:33 p.m. and 2:10 p.m. Monday.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
