Sitka Wolves Get Win at Juneau Tourney
By Sentinel Sports
Sitka High’s softball team had its first league victory over the Juneau-Douglas High School Crimson Bears at a tournament last weekend.
The team lost by 1 run last Friday night in a 5-4 game before coming back to get the ‘w’ Saturday with a score of 11-7.
Miah Dumag pitched in both games, Head Coach Bob Potrzuski said.
“The victory was powered by 18 Sitka hits with Zoe Krupa, Ashlyne Miller, Calista Gallant, Nyla Duncan and Emily Young having multiple hits and runs batted in,” he said.
Krupa, a senior, played tenaciously as well, Potrzuski said.
“Clearly, she was determined to win the game,” he said. “It was a lesson to all of us, really, on how important hustle and determination can be.”

Another player highlight: freshman Jayla Ewers’ stepping up to be starting catcher in a varsity game. “She did amazingly well,” the coach said.
The Wolves also took on a solid Thunder Mountain High at the tournament, losing both games 8-1 and 8-0.
“However, even in those games, it was clear that Sitka has improved dramatically over the course of the season,” he said.
The JV team had a big win over Juneau-Douglas with a 12-4 victory. Lillie Morgan pitched extremely well, while Avery Voron and Jaelyn McCleod had key hits, Potrzuski said.
“The three freshmen ‘slappers’ – Ewers, Ellie Barker and Baylee Pearson – gave defenses fits by using their speed to put pressure on the defenses,” he said.
This weekend the Wolves go to Ketchikan for some of the last weekends of the season.
“We hope to feature Zoe in the circle and Ashlyne at the bat in their last regular season games while the youngsters continue to step up their games,” he said. “This weekend is a great chance to continue improving and get a big win against Ketchikan, before the tournament in Juneau the following week.”
