Trial Date Set In Dapcevich Suit
By Sentinel Staff
At a conference Tuesday, Judge Trevor Stephens set July 16-18, 2018, for the trial in Marko Dapcevich’s lawsuit against the City and Borough of Sitka.
Dapcevich filed a lawsuit in March against the city, Administrator Mark Gorman and Mayor Matt Hunter, contending that the city didn’t follow the Home Rule Charter when it awarded a bid to construct a floating dock at Gary Paxton Industrial Park. Dapcevich later amended the complaint to seek damages from Gorman and Hunter individually, in addition to their capacities as administrator and mayor.
A pre-trial conference is scheduled for July 2, 2018.
GPIP director Garry White told the Sentinel today that work is continuing on the multipurpose dock under the disputed contract. A refurbished barge from Washington state is to be moved to Ketchikan, where more work will be performed at the boat yard before being brought to Sitka.
Installation of piling for the dock is scheduled for late September and completion by December.
The purpose of the 250-by-78-foot dock is to provide space for fishermen and other boat owners to work on their vessels in the water. It is to have three-phase power and a ramp for access by cars and work vehicles, White said.
