The following calls were received by Sitka police by 8 a.m. today:
July 14
Police left a message for a Haven Lane resident who moved out of the neighborhood and left behind garbage, which was strewn about by a bear.
A caller complained about a driver going the wrong way on Cathedral Way.
An elderly woman was reported hunched over, with a high pulse rate and clammy. An ambulance was called.
A single brass key with a wood trinket was reported lost.
A Samsung Galaxy S6 phone was reported lost Thursday.
An employer asked to sign a criminal trespass form against an employee, and said his belongings were going to be dropped off at a motel.
At 3:35 p.m. a bear killed a dog on Rudolph Walton Circle. Alaska Wildlife Troopers killed the bear. (See story, Page 1.)
At 4:07 p.m. a caller complained about a driver throwing garbage and a baseball hat out the window while heading outbound on HPR. Officers were on a higher priority call.
At 5:23 p.m. a man was reported passed out on the grass next to city hall. He smelled of alcohol but didn’t seem intoxicated, police said. He told police he was resting before work.
Officers collected a live round bullet turned in at a hospital.
A driver reported swerving on the road at 7:46 p.m. told police his car had steering issues, and he would take up the problem with the owner. He was not intoxicated, police said.
At 8:08 p.m. police picked up nails, alcohol cans, tarp and a saw left in the woods off Tlingit Way.
A truck was reported gone through in the ANB Harbor parking lot. Chains were stolen but nothing else of value, the owner said.
A small girl yelling out of her Burkhart Street window for her parents was still yelling when police arrived. The child seemed to be fine, and the mom said she had been home the whole time.
Police checked on a report of men in black entering a home, and looking around with flashlights, at 10:30 p.m. on Edgecumbe Drive. The family was home and nothing suspicious was going on when officers checked.
Rap music was reported heard near city hall at 11 p.m. A nearby bar had music but it couldn’t be heard from city hall, officers said.
Fireworks were seen going off at 11 p.m. from the Edgecumbe Drive area.
A bear was reported in a trailer court at 11:55 p.m. in the 2300 block of HPR but it was gone when police arrived.
July 15
An ambulance was called for a person having an allergic reaction on the SJ campus.
Police investigated a report of a stolen vehicle, and stopped the person driving it.
Shattered glass was reported at Barlow and Lincoln streets. Public works was called.
A Coleman boat seat pad was found in the Forest Service building on HPR.
Pink framed eyeglasses were left along the side of police station.
A traffic accident with no injuries was documented by police at HPR and Granite Creek Road.
An ambulance was called at 1:25 p.m. for a resident having trouble breathing.
Police responded to an assault report, and made an arrest.
A caller asked police to check on her sister, who has a history of domestic issues with her boyfriend. She was fine when police contacted her, and agreed to call her sister.
Police checked on a woman after a friend expressed concern. She told officers she was fine, and police passed on that message.
An Android phone may have fallen out of a backpack during the Alpine Adventure Run, from Lincoln Street, up Gavan Hill and over to Harbor Mountain, police were told.
Police documented a traffic accident involving a dump truck and a red Ford that pulled out in front of the truck. There were no injuries.
A woman told police a man who isn’t supposed to contact her was seen at her place of work. Police determined no crime had been committed.
A cell phone found on the muskeg trail was turned in.
A concealed handgun permit found on the Causeway was turned in.
A man said his girlfriend keeps calling him and hanging up so he can’t sleep, and may be having a mental break. Police said they would keep an eye out for her.
A resident said his girlfriend took his taxi, but police found no evidence of a crime.
Police checked on a man who was seen at 11:25 p.m. walking across the fog line, possibly intoxicated, at HPR and Granite Creek Road. He was able to care for himself, and continued walking, an officer said.
A bartender reported a woman was carrying possibly fake ID. She had gone to another bar when police arrived.
July 16
A ferry captain asked police to give Juneau troopers the heads-up on a possibly mentally ill woman who planned to get off the ship in Juneau.
A wallet found at Centennial Hall was turned in.
A Maxwest cell phone found on Erler Street was turned in.
An ambulance was called for someone who tried to harm himself.
The harbor department was called about a boat filling up with water from a hose that had been left on for hours in Eliason Harbor.
An ambulance was called for someone who fell and couldn’t get up. The ambulance was refused after police helped the woman get up.
A clutch wallet was turned in from Lillian Drive.
An ambulance was called for a resident who had just fallen.
July 17
A loud domestic argument was heard at 6:24 a.m. Police responded.
Sitka Police
Travis E. Speck, 17, was charged early Saturday with being a minor operating a vehicle after consuming alcohol and refusing to submit to a breath test.
Jonathan B. Scott, 47, was charged Saturday with assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence.
George T. Yocum, 18, was charged Saturday with minor operating a vehicle after consuming alcohol.
Rikki A. Biggs, 23, was charged Sunday with criminal trespass in the second degree.
In Court
Connor J. Forrey, 24, was sentenced to 45 days, with 42 suspended, on a charge of reckless driving; 45 days, with 43 suspended, for failing to give immediate notice of an accident; 30 days, with 10 suspended, and fined $3,000, on a charge of driving under the influence; and 30 days, with 20 suspended, on a charge of theft in the third degree. He is to complete counseling and will be on probation for a year, and his license is suspended for a year. Dismissed were charges of criminal trespass in the second degree, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief in the fifth and refusing a breath test.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department responded to nine requests for ambulances on Friday; four on Saturday; three on Sunday and one today before noon.
At 9:02 a.m. today a fire truck was sent to 2 Lincoln Street on a report of a possible propane smell. No leak was found, the fire hall said.
Wildlife Troopers
Troopers contacted Lyle A. Hilde, 57, on board the commercial power troll vessel Anne on July 8. Investigation revealed Hilde had retained a non-hatchery marked king salmon while the season was open only to hatchery marked king salmon with the adipose fin having been removed. Hilde was issued a summons to appear for arraignment in the District Court at Sitka and the king salmon was seized, troopers said.
