The following calls were received by 8 a.m. today:
Aug. 10
At 7:40 a.m. a bear and two cubs were reported seen at Sitka National Cemetery.
A traffic accident was documented in the 200 block of Lincoln Street, at 8:40 a.m.
A woman said she lost her purse somewhere on HPR.
An ambulance was called for a woman who fell and injured her head at 10 a.m. in the 1200 block of SMC.
Police picked up a bike found leaning against a building on Katlian Street. It has white handle bars, and yellow tape around it that says “Loot Town.”
A Maxwest phone was found at the library.
A woman said she lost a red fishing license holder containing her ID and credit cards.
The harbor office asked police to talk to a woman seen disassembling a bike and throwing parts into the ocean next to Thomsen Harbor. A message was left for her at her temporary residence, and she may be trespassed from the harbor.
At 11:45 a.m. a resident reported his ex was refusing to leave his home at his request. She was advised she was unwanted and could face criminal trespass charges if she returned.
At 11:52 a.m. a 70-year-old woman off a cruise ship was reported hit by a car in the crosswalk in the 200 block of Lincoln Street. She was taken to the hospital and later medevacked. Police said the woman, from Fountain Valley, Calif., was diagnosed with a skull fracture. The accident was still under investigation today.
A hospital patient reportedly threatened to punch a nurse. He was given a disorderly conduct warning.
A man passed out at a thrift store at 11:10 a.m. was not willing to provide a breath sample.
A caller reported a dispute between a man and woman. The dispute was over when officers arrived. The caller said the woman may have a hearing problem.
At 1:10 p.m. a 911 caller reported a traffic accident at the intersection of Baranof Street and SMC.
A camera bag was left at an art gallery, possibly by a cruise ship passenger.
A vehicle found near the second gate of Harbor Mountain Road turned out to be stolen from one of the harbors. The owner was told he could pick it up.
A taxi driver going the wrong way up a one-way street told a neighbor he was allowed to because he was dropping off a person with disabilities. Police talked to the driver.
Police helped out in a case of an out-of-control youth, who was then left in the care of a responsible adult.
The husband of a woman who had left hospital care still hooked up to an IV said she had arrived home safely, and her IV was out.
A caller expressed concern about goats, rabbits and chickens on Price Street.
Officers advised people trying to pull a vehicle off the side of Harbor Mountain Road to stop, when it appeared a larger piece of equipment would be needed to accomplish the task.
A man who blew .274 after being found on Kaagwaantaan Street at 8 p.m. was left in the care of his crewmates in the harbor.
Trash cans were reported overturned in the 3700 block of HPR at 11 p.m. but no bears were seen. Residents picked up the garbage.
Aug. 11
A man airing out a Katlian Street home became offended when officers checked on it and noted the home was in another person’s name. Officers were accused of entering the home but they said were just in the doorway.
Three men were reported overturning garbage containers in the 400 block of Katlian Street at 1:50 a.m.
At 3:25 a.m. a hospital worker asked for a welfare check on a patient. Officers found the patient was fine.
Sitka Police
Tia M. Brown, 29, was remanded Thursday for violating release conditions by not showing up on time for her court-ordered PBT.
Brandon R. Thomassen, 28, was charged today with driving under the influence.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched eight ambulances between 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. today.
At 4:18 p.m. Thursday a fire truck was sent to 200 Flume Circle after burned food set off an alarm.
At 6:46 p.m. Thursday a fire truck was sent to 329 Katlian St. on a false alarm.
Coast Guard
A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter was diverted Thursday to search for a possible person in the water, after a boater spotted a raft adrift in the Four Corners end of Gastineau Channel at Juneau.
No one was found, there were no reports of missing or overdue boaters, and the search was suspended after about two hours.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
