TRUCK FIRE – Firefighters knock down a fire in a Ford Explorer truck in Arrowhead Trailer Park in the 1200 block of Sawmill Creek Road Saturday evening. One person received fire-related injuries and was taken to the hospital, Sitka Fire Department Chief Craig Warren said, and the truck was considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Warren said. The fire hall received the call about the fire at 5:33 p.m., and one fire engine with eight firefighters and an ambulance were dispatched, he said. (Sentinel Photo by James Poulson)

City Crews Take Pumps To Boat Stuck on Rocks
By Sentinel Staff
The city harbor and fire departments went to the rescue with dewatering pumps Saturday after a vessel ran aground at Old Sitka Rocks, five miles northwest of Sitka.
None of the three boaters reported aboard was injured in the accident, but the 75-foot pleasure craft Alaskan Dream was damaged and began taking on water, the harbor department said.
The request for help came in shortly before 2 p.m. Firefighters and harbor staff used the harbor vessel at Thomsen Harbor to deliver the pumps to the stricken vessel.
Harbor Master Stan Eliason said he didn’t know the cause of the accident, but noted the boat struck a charted rock that may not have been visible approaching the 11.3 foot high tide. High tide on Saturday was 2:24 p.m. Eliason said the boat owners are new to Sitka.
The Coast Guard was advised of the incident, and there was some concern about the 1,900 gallons of fuel aboard, the harbor department said. The Coast Guard said today that the fuel was being transferred onto a seiner.
The vessel has temporary moorage at Thomsen Harbor.

Businesses using the Centennial Hall parking lot testified Tuesday against a proposal to charge them rent in addition to the $200 annual permit fee. City Administrator Hugh Bevan made the proposal in response to the Assembly’s direction to Centennial Hall manager Don Kluting to try to close the $340,000 gap between building revenues and operational costs.
