TRUCK FIRE – Firefighters knock down a fire in a Ford Explorer truck in Arrowhead Trailer Park in the 1200 block of Sawmill Creek Road Saturday evening. One person received fire-related injuries and was taken to the hospital, Sitka Fire Department Chief Craig Warren said, and the truck was considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Warren said. The fire hall received the call about the fire at 5:33 p.m., and one fire engine with eight firefighters and an ambulance were dispatched, he said. (Sentinel Photo by James Poulson)

Sitka Police Department received the following calls between 8 a.m. Friday and 8 a.m. today:
Oct. 9
At 11 a.m. a resident reported a man was trespassing on his boat, and asked to talk to an officer. It was determined the issue is civil since the resident is selling his boat to the man, and the man is in default. The resident was asked to contact the courts about a civil process.
The animal control officer was called at 12:34 p.m. to investigate a noise complaint on Dodge Circle.
At 3:11 p.m. a resident showed police a photo of garbage being dragged onto his property by a bear, on Darrin Drive. He said it was the third such incident in three weeks. The resident asked police to talk to his neighbor about the proper time to take out garbage.
At 4:17 p.m. a Katherine Benson Street resident said he left his house for 20 minutes and when he returned, he found metal stuck in his front and back doors, possibly an attempted break in. He called his landlord, who replaced the locks and said it appeared both doorknobs were jammed with some sort of metal.
At 5:20 p.m. a man said items had been stolen out of his vehicle parked in the 1200 block of HPR.
At 6:51 p.m. a large husky was sitting on a Wortman Loop porch. The resident said she would keep her eye on it until the owner can be found.
At 8 p.m. police checked on a reportedly erratic driver at Starrigavan boat launch, and found no signs of impairment. She was advised of the complaint.
At 8:52 p.m. a resident reported a girl in a dark SUV appeared to be smoking crack on Beardslee Way, but the vehicle was gone from the area when police arrived.
Oct. 10
At 12:12 a.m. a man was taken to the hospital after he tripped over a tire in a Katlian Street yard, and appeared to be suffering from an injury. He admitted to smoking meth within the past four hours, officers said.
At 12:25 a.m. a resident called 911 to report a man in his 20s knocking over garbage cans, yelling and screaming on Burkhart Street. He was given a disorderly conduct warning.
At 5:34 a.m. a resident reported she woke up to a bear sniffing her window and bear prints on her porch on Haven Lane. The bear was gone when officers arrived, and they were told the resident scared it off.
In Court
Tiara M. Falk, 31, was fined $1,000, with $1,000 suspended, for a commercial fishing violation when she was found to be in possession of a king salmon after the initial closure on July 18, court records said. She is to pay $150 in restitution and forfeit the fish. She will be on probation.
Walter D. Peratrovich Jr., 36, was found to have violated probation. His probation is revoked and reinstated, with time suspended. He is to serve 10 days.
Emergency Calls
The Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 10:38 a.m., 3:50 p.m., and 5:52 p.m. Monday, and 12:41 a.m. today.
