TRUCK FIRE – Firefighters knock down a fire in a Ford Explorer truck in Arrowhead Trailer Park in the 1200 block of Sawmill Creek Road Saturday evening. One person received fire-related injuries and was taken to the hospital, Sitka Fire Department Chief Craig Warren said, and the truck was considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Warren said. The fire hall received the call about the fire at 5:33 p.m., and one fire engine with eight firefighters and an ambulance were dispatched, he said. (Sentinel Photo by James Poulson)

Sitka Police Department received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
Oct. 11
At 7:13 a.m. a caller from the Pioneers Home said people sleeping on benches outside the home were making workers going to their cars fearful; and also pointed out there’s a preschool on the premises. The caller said the people were doing nothing except sleeping. Officers were to be advised.
At 9:51 a.m. a caller said a black suitcase was sitting in the alley in the 200 block of Lincoln Street. Police got multiple other calls about the suitcase.
At 10:56 a.m. a woman said three men were harassing her as she walked along the road in the 700 block of Katlian, and one man, wearing an acoustic guitar, had grabbed her hand, trying to hug her. Officers talked to the men and warned them against grabbing people.
At 10:57 a.m. a man said he lost a note containing $300.
At 3:37 p.m. a 911 caller said a vehicle had just crashed into his front yard in the 1600 block of SMC. Police made an arrest.
At 6:11 p.m. a 911 caller said a man had just fallen in the 300 block of Lincoln Street, had hit his head and was bleeding. He was taken to a hospital.
At 11:30 p.m. a caller said three men were being loud in front of the Blockhouse at 215 Marine St. An officer talked to the men and advised one to stay away from liquor for the rest of the night.
Oct. 12
At 12:12 a.m. two men were reported having a loud argument as they walked up Observatory Street. Officers found no evidence of a crime, and took one of them home.
At 2:39 a.m. three vehicles parked at the airport were cited.

Tyler Eldon Stonebreaker, 24, was charged with driving under the influence Wednesday afternoon.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Station dispatched ambulances at 11:25 a.m. and 6:12 p.m. Wednesday. At 9:33 a.m. today an engine was sent to 106 Metlakatla where a fire alarm had gone off, but there was no fire.

Businesses using the Centennial Hall parking lot testified Tuesday against a proposal to charge them rent in addition to the $200 annual permit fee. City Administrator Hugh Bevan made the proposal in response to the Assembly’s direction to Centennial Hall manager Don Kluting to try to close the $340,000 gap between building revenues and operational costs.
