TRUCK FIRE – Firefighters knock down a fire in a Ford Explorer truck in Arrowhead Trailer Park in the 1200 block of Sawmill Creek Road Saturday evening. One person received fire-related injuries and was taken to the hospital, Sitka Fire Department Chief Craig Warren said, and the truck was considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Warren said. The fire hall received the call about the fire at 5:33 p.m., and one fire engine with eight firefighters and an ambulance were dispatched, he said. (Sentinel Photo by James Poulson)

Sitka Police Department received the following calls by 8 a.m. today:
Oct. 16
Police were asked to help take a juvenile into custody.
At 11:24 a.m. police gave a dog owner a warning for allowing his pet to run off leash, downtown.
At 11:26 a.m. a caller said he had seen a bear earlier in the day near the power station in the 4400 block of SMC.
At 12:29 p.m. a man said he had received word that his daughter’s boyfriend was in a residence where he was not supposed to be. The boyfriend was arrested.
At 1:39 p.m. a caller reported a brown and black terrier was missing on Nelson Logging Road.
At 2:09 p.m. a woman said a driver was tailgating her on HPR. Police were unable to locate the driver.
At 2:14 p.m. a caller reported seeing a driver driving with a canceled license at HPR and Katlian Street. Police followed up but were unable to locate the suspect.
A child’s knit hat in a bread bag was found on Cross Trail. It will be kept until Oct. 20, police said.
A woman asked for a number for a social service agency and made suicidal comments. She was taken to the hospital.
At 6:37 p.m. a resident heard popping noises and saw a flash on Harbor Mountain. Police were advised.

Oscar Strait, 28, was charged Monday with violating conditions of release by allegedly consuming alcohol.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 1:12 p.m., 5:14 p.m., 6:36 p.m. and 7:36 p.m. Monday, and 3:56 a.m. today.

Businesses using the Centennial Hall parking lot testified Tuesday against a proposal to charge them rent in addition to the $200 annual permit fee. City Administrator Hugh Bevan made the proposal in response to the Assembly’s direction to Centennial Hall manager Don Kluting to try to close the $340,000 gap between building revenues and operational costs.
