By Sentinel Staff
The 21st annual WhaleFest Run drew a good turnout Saturday morning under beautiful, sunny skies and with dozens of whales alongside in Silver Bay, race organizer Brian Beall reports.
Runners had the options of a 2-mile walk, a 5k run or a 10k run, all beginning and ending at Whale Park on Sawmill Creek Road.
Logging the fastest times on the 10k race course, which extended out to the base of Bear Mountain, were Chris McGraw (35:39) and Adrienne Forkois (47:54). In the 5k run, Aaron Routon (18:52) and Anna Paustian (23:19) were the first in their fields to cross the finish line.
Proceeds from the race benefited the Sitka Sound Science Center and Sitka WhaleFest.
