November 13, 2017 Police Blotter

Sitka Police Department received the following calls between 8 a.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. today:
Nov. 9
    A man said a gun was stolen from the 100 block of Sharon Drive.
    At 12:32 p.m. a caller reported seeing a man light up a joint in the 1300 block of SMC then drive toward town. Another man was a passenger.
    A man asked to speak to an officer. He was deemed unable to care for himself and taken into protective custody.
    After a vehicle was rear-ended on O’Cain Street one driver was warned about backing up and the other was warned for parking close to a driveway.
    Nov. 10
    A white bike found in the woods in the 2000 block of HPR was turned in.
    A man said his grandfather’s “worn, black, smooth leather” wallet was missing. He called back later to say the wallet had been found at Lakeside.
    A man said a woman he has a protective order against was making harassing phone calls to him.
    A juvenile’s mother asked for a welfare check on her son. Police found he was not in danger and had been in contact with an OCS worker.
    At 5:54 p.m. a caller complained of  several vehicles “hot-rodding” in the 1000 block of HPR. An officer talked to a driver who had mud and grass caked on his vehicle. He said he was in the area for a delivery. He was given a warning on his driving practices.
    At 6:37 p.m. TSA reported finding a firearm in checked baggage. An officer took the firearm for safekeeping.
Nov. 11
    A 911 caller  said she was in severe pain and vomiting, possibly from food poisoning. She was taken to a hospital.
    At 9:07 a.m. a 911 caller reported his son was missing from his room and a medical problem was indicated. Officers made contact with the son, and his brothers came to care for him.
    Two juveniles reported a pink and black bike helmet was missing.
    At 4:10 p.m. a caller in the 2800 block of HPR reported finding a bullet hole in his living room ceiling. An officer saw evidence of a firearm discharge but no indication of a crime.
Nov. 12
    At 8:31 a.m. an iPhone was found at ANB Harbor parking lot.
    At 9 a.m. a Monastery Street resident said a holiday star/light projector was missing from his front yard, and his shed door was open.
    At 10:04 a.m. a caller said she’d seen two males trying to get into her vehicle as she left a store in the 700 block of HPR. She said they immediately left in a red Toyota crew/twin cab and parked nearby. Officers were unable to find the vehicle.
    At 2:52 p.m. men were reported in a “violent verbal altercation” at Blatchley. Police found no sign of a crime. The father of one declined help.
    A man asked for help after hearing a third-hand report that his sister had killed herself. Police found that the woman was in the hospital in Juneau.
    A caller asked for a check on his aunt and uncle who had been arguing. All were asleep when police arrived.
    At 11:58 p.m. a Moller Street resident said she’d heard her cat yowl and her storm door opening as though someone was trying to get in. Police found no one in the area, and the fence and storm door were secure.
Nov. 13
    At 6:21 a.m. a caller in the 3300 block of HPR said his black and white Jack Russell terrier was missing.
   
    Emergency Calls
    Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 9:48 p.m. Friday; 9:37 a.m. and 9:50 p.m. Saturday; 3:13 and 8:27 p.m. Sunday and 7:08 a.m. today.
    At 9:07 p.m. Friday a fire truck was sent to Shelikof Drive after a power pole caught fire due to a blown fuse. The fire burned out as the truck arrived.
    At 5:43 p.m. Sunday a fire truck was sent to 304 Tlingit Way after a carbon monoxide alarm went off. Firefighters found no gas leak.

Coast Guard
    A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter flew a 49-year-old patient from Haines to Juneau early Saturday.

    Wildlife Troopers

     Izaak Needham, 48, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers and National Marine Fisheries Service Nov. 7 for failing to display 12 inch numbers and for employing unlicensed crew. He was fined $470. The crewman, Kelly Thompson, 33, was cited for not having a crew license and fined $260.

    In Court

    Evelyn N. Calhoun, 30, was ordered to serve five days of suspended time (satisfied by time served) for violating conditions of probation.
    Nina N. Martinez, 29, was sentenced to 30 days, with 27 suspended, and fined $1,500 on a charge of driving under the influence. She is to get counseling, her license was revoked  90 days and she’ll be on probation a year.
    Patrick J. O’Brien, 25. was sentenced to 30 days, with 27 suspended, and fined $1,500 on a charge of driving under the influence. He is to complete counseling, his license will be revoked and he’ll be on probation for a year. A charge of making a false report or giving false information was dismissed.
    Casina J. Shakespeare, 35, was sentenced to 270 days, with 240 suspended, on a charge of theft in the third degree. She is to complete counseling, and will be on probation one year. She is to have no contact with a particular individual and art gallery.
    Kirk R. Albrecht, 31, was sentenced to 30 days, suspended, and fined $500 on a charge of refusing to submit to a chemical test. He was originally charged with reckless driving but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge. His license is revoked for 30 days, and he will be on probation for a year.
