LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. The following calls were logged between 8 a.m. Friday and 8 a.m. today:
Dec. 8
At 9:25 a.m. a 911 caller said a couple was arguing in the middle of Verstovia. Officers talked to a woman.
A caller asked for an officer for what sounded like a neighbor’s questionable conduct. Due to a bad connection, dispatch was unable to get details. A few minutes later the caller said when she went outside her neighbor yelled at her. An officer encouraged her to speak to the landlord.
Child-sized Rx glasses were found at the Russian cemetery near Erler.
At 2:20 p.m. a man was reported slumped over in a vehicle on Sirstad. An officer spoke to the man about drinking and driving and warned him about sleeping in his car.
Dec. 9
At 1:15 a.m. a 911 caller said a woman had left a bar after drinking and then driven off. An officer did not find any obvious signs of impairment.
A man said his vehicle’s tires were slashed, on Verstovia Street.
A caller asked about getting a key to his sister’s car at the Sitka High shop.
At 3:25 p.m. a caller reported a traffic accident on Katlian when a driver attempted to make a U-turn.
At 4:34 p.m. a caller said a woman was making a scene in the 1300 block of SMC in a child custody dispute. The child was left with the father and the woman left in her vehicle.
Keys to a Dodge Caravan were lost.
At 10:39 p.m. a caller said two young girls were walking up the Block House stairs. An officer didn’t find the girls but found signs persons were staying in an abandoned shed nearby, where paraphernalia also was found.
At 11 p.m. a caller said a young, possibly intoxicated, male and female were walking and arguing on Peterson Street. Officers saw no one in the area.
Dec. 10
At 12:52 a.m. a caller in the 1700 block of HPR asked for help then hung up. Officers later arrested a man.
At 1 a.m. a caller said a couple was fighting in the 200 block of Kaagwaantaan and a female was yelling at a male to stay away from her. They were gone when police arrived.
At 1:56 a.m. two men were reported fighting in the street in the 200 block of Katlian. Officers gave them disorderly conduct warnings.
At 6:11 a.m. a caller reported the theft of her Alaska ID and Blu phone from her room on Seward Street. Medication also was reported missing.
At 7:10 a.m. a 911 caller said a man his mom had brought home from a bar was making him feel unsafe. An officer found the man was intoxicated, and at the mom’s request he was escorted outside to wait for a cab.
A man called 911 for an ambulance for his wife who was experiencing severe abdominal pain.
A store employee reported a theft at a Lincoln Street store.
A woman asked for an ambulance because she may have been drugged or poisoned at a social services agency. Police were told the woman is new to town and may have mental issues.
A woman said her vehicle may have been broken into, on Price Street.
At 6 p.m. a driver was reported swerving all over HPR.
At 6:35 p.m. a man was seen going through trash and the recycling area near Centennial Hall and the library.Dec. 11
At 1:46 a.m. a 911 caller reported a possible domestic issue at a neighbors’ house. Police found trash had been thrown during an argument, but no sign of a crime. Warnings were issued.
Sitka Police
Rikki Biggs, 24, was charged Friday with unlawful contact and violating conditions of release by contacting a male she was ordered not to contact.
Pedro Diaz Jr., 24, was charged with assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence, early Sunday.
Sam Kane, 33, was charged Sunday with two counts of assault in the fourth degree, domestic violence.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department got ambulance calls at 6:23 a.m., 11:28 a.m. and 4:18 p.m. Sunday.
Coast Guard
A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter this morning medevacked a 39-year-old woman from Port Alexander to Sitka, where she was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
