Boat Parade
Set for Saturday
The lighted boat parade is planned 6-7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16. Boaters will congregate at the north breakwater and plan to go north along Halibut Point Road.
Organizers said the route may be changed at the last minute, dependent on the weather. Raven Radio and Sitka Chatters on Facebook will have last-minute information if that happens.
All boats are invited to join in and are asked to meet at the breakwater and call VHF Channel 9.
Cancer Support
Group to Meet
Sitka Cancer Support Group will meet 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at the Brave Heart Volunteers in the Pioneers Home Manager’s House.
The group will get together to tell their experiences of the past and present, and talk about the future. Those in cancer treatment, cancer survivors and family members are invited to spend time with others who understand what they are going through.
The support group is sponsored by Sitka Cancer Survivors Society. Call Mary Beth with questions or if a ride is needed to attend, at 623-0842.
Musical Program
At Adventist Church
The Sitka Seventh-day Adventist church, 1613 Halibut Point Road, is hosting a Christmas musical program 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16.
All are invited to the special musical event. Refreshments will be served afterwards.
The music is an eclectic mix of traditional Christmas music and more contemporary Christmas songs.
STA, UAS Offer
Dual Credit Funds
UAS-Sitka Campus, in partnership with the Sitka Tribe of Alaska, is accepting applications for the STA dual credit scholarship program.
Tribal citizens enrolled with the Sitka School District are eligible to apply for a scholarship that may cover the total cost of a four-credit UAS-Sitka course.
The deadline to apply for the scholarship for spring semester is Jan. 9, 2018. Applications and scholarship guidelines can be found by visiting: http://www.sitkatribe.org/services/education/index.html

Holiday Carnival
Saturday at BMS
The Children’s Holiday Carnival is planned 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Blatchley Middle School multipurpose room.
Activities will include face painting, bouncy house, ornament-making and bean bag toss. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
The carnival is sponsored by Gajaa Heen Dancers.
Health Summit
Lunch Friday
The Sitka Health Summit Coalition’s monthly Wooch.een health networking and learning kunch will be noon-1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at the first floor conference room at the SEARHC’s Community Health Services Building.
Participants can receive a complimentary lunch from the Island Skillet at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital and then go to the CHS building, which is about a five- to seven-minute walk.
