LUTHERAN QUILTERS – Members of the Quilts for Comfort Group stand between pews draped with some of the 205 quilts they made, in the Sitka Lutheran Church Tuesday. The group made the quilts for five local non-profits and one in Anchorage. Police logged the following calls between 8 a.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. today.
March 20
At 8:06 a.m. a hotel employee called but didn’t say anything. When police called back, a woman said she didn’t know if she needed to report to police the fact a hotel guest didn’t pay.
An intoxicated man walking into the road was taken to a hospital.
At 4:06 p.m. a 911 caller said he was frustrated with his daughter. Police talked to him about his options.
At 4:58 p.m. a 911 caller reported detaining seven juveniles in the 200 block of Katlian Street after a fight. Police talked to the caller and juveniles and determined no physical confrontation had taken place.
At 5:11 p.m. a caller reported a suspicious pumpkin on the handrail of a house under construction in the 2300 block of HPR. Police found nothing suspicious about the house or the pumpkin.
At 6:07 p.m. a grocery store reported a theft the night before.
At 6:35 p.m. a resident in the 3200 block of HPR said his wife found a backpack in the trash can containing a loaded magazine for a pistol and New Mexico identification.
At 6:07 p.m. a caller said a medium sized dog was outside her Monastery Street home barking at her. Police were advised. She called back 20 minutes later to report the dog still there. The owner picked it up.
At 7:57 p.m. a caller reported hearing a man screaming near Whale Park. Police talked to the man, who said he was upset about an earlier incident. He was given a ride to a hospital.
At 8:48 p.m. a resident in the Indian River subdivision said people who had been asked to leave the previous day were back at the building tapping on windows. No one was around when police checked.
At 10:23 p.m. a caller reported an aggressive and possibly intoxicated man on the sidewalk of the 700 block of HPR. The man said he was trying to get someone to get him something from the store. He agreed to leave.
March 21
An ambulance was called for someone with lower abdominal pain.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department received requests for ambulances at 12:07, 2:32, 8:26 and 10:11 p.m. Tuesday, and 6:43 a.m. today.
At 10:30 a.m. Tuesday a Fire Department dive team performed a search in an area of Crescent Harbor for the police department.
C.G. Picks Up
3 After Vessel
Runs Aground
A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter around 9 a.m. today picked up three crew members off the 45-foot fishing vessel EH after it ran hard aground in Peril Strait.
The helicopter was able to land in the area, where it picked up two men and one woman and flew them to Sitka.
The vessel is still at the scene, the Coast Guard said this morning.
