Evy Kinnear of the Fortress of the Bear will address Chamber of Commerce members noon Wednesday at Westmark Sitka.
The luncheon meeting is open to the public.
Softball Benefit
At Elks Lodge
A benefit for the Lady Wolves softball team will be 5-7 p.m. April 22 at the Sitka Elks Lodge.

Lunch April 20
The Sitka Health Summit Coalition invites those interested in community wellness to the Wooch.een (‘‘working together’’ in Tlingit) Health Networking and Learning lunch noon-1:30 p.m. Friday, April 20, at the Sitka Community Hospital classroom.
The information-sharing event is to spark partnerships and foster cross sector collaboration, learning and networking to improve well-being.

Day of Caring at
Blatchley School
The public is invited to take a little extra care in driving on Friday, April 20, when 270 Blatchley students will be out in the community, many walking along or crossing roadways. Students will be wearing bright blue T-shirts. Many will be wearing orange vests.
The main areas include: Sawmill Creek Road, Halibut Point Road, Seward, Jarvis, Katlian and Lincoln streets.
Women in Politics
Discussion Slated
A non-partisan panel discussion of previously-elected Sitka women is 6 p.m. Monday, April 30, at the Beak Restaurant. This informational event is for women considering running for the Assembly.
Recent Assembly members, former Mayor Mim McConnell and Michelle Putz, will tell of their experiences about running for office and the process of being an elected official. All are welcome; however, the presentation is about encouraging women to run for office.
A few appetizers will be served, and a limited menu and beverages will be available for the evening.

Responding to the requests of athletes, coaches and parents, the Sitka School Board voted unanimously Monday against a proposal that would have changed Sitka High School’s classification from Class 4A, which includes Juneau and Ketchikan, to the 3A, which has schools with enrollment of 100 to 400 students.

Memories of Sitka’s first radio station have been revived by a St. Louis, Mo., man who was one of the founders. Fred A. Wiethuchter recently wrote a letter to “Mayor Sitka, Alaska” asking about the town since he was here during World War II. He was an Army private at Fort Ray when he was attached to Armed Services Radio Station KRAY and WVCX ....
