The following calls came in by 8 a.m. today:
July 16
A Samsung J3 phone was lost near the playground.
At 6:57 p.m. two men were reported yelling at each other on Castle Hill. Officers gave them warnings.
At 7:28 p.m. a woman was reported having trouble standing up at a bar. Officers responded.
At 7:28 p.m. a Lifeline alarm sounded. Officers found a woman was having trouble getting back in a wheelchair.
At 9 p.m. a deckhand reported a woman was on his skipper’s boat without permission, in Crescent Harbor. The woman was taken into protective custody due to her intoxication.
At 9:51 p.m. a woman under the influence of a substance was in a fish processing company’s laundry room, police were told. She left on foot.
A resident in the Kelly and Lincoln streets area said a bear had been seen the previous night. State and federal agencies were advised.
Fireworks were reported heard at 10:42 p.m. in the 4000 block of HPR.
A hospital asked that an intoxicated patient into protective custody.
Fireworks were reported at 11:44 p.m. in the 2000 block of SMC.
July 17
At 1:23 a.m. a fight was reported at a bar. Police talked to one of the people reported to be fighting, and the person who reported the fight, and determined no help was needed.
At 1:35 a.m. a party was reported on Vitskari Street, perhaps involving young people. Police documented a family party and no excessive noise.
At 1:46 a.m. a resident said he dropped off four people at the top of the ramp in Eliason Harbor when a man “came out of nowhere” and punched one of the four in the back of the head. Police talked to those involved who said they didn’t want to press charges.
Emergency Calls
Sitka Fire Department dispatched ambulances at 9:04 a.m., 3:54 p.m., 5:10 p.m., 7:32 p.m. and 9:26 p.m. Monday.
At 8:41 a.m. Monday a fire truck was sent to 1110 Edgecumbe Drive but no help was needed when the truck arrived.
At 10:18 a.m. today a fire truck was sent to Pioneers Home on a false alarm.
Coast Guard
A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka helicopter crew medevacked a 17-year-old boy with appendicitis this morning from Wrangell to Sitka.

Michael Stringer, environmental specialist for Sitka Tribe of Alaska and a founder of the community garden, takes the concept of Earth Week literally. This weekend he hopes others will share his appreciation for “earth” and things growing in it by joining him in preparing the community garden just behind Blatchley Middle School for another growing season.
